Harbour Ball update
A few guys have asked me if anything interesting has happened yet in Harbour Ball (aka Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball League).
I have the following to report from last night's action between Shouldice Mechanical and All-In-One Septic and Excavation.
1) A batter got hit by a pitch last night in the.....uh....groin area. Not sure I have ever seen a guy turn to face the pitch and take it directly in that location. Thankfully pitches don't generally travel too fast in Harbour Ball. But he did still require a courtesy runner.
2) One player, a regular in the league, showed up with no cap, in a golf shirt, jeans and Crocs. I thought he might have just picked out of the stands to spare, but apparently not. Uniform requirements are pretty lax in Harbour Ball.
3) The pitcher for All-in-One was wearing ball pants, his league issued shirt (we have numbers this year for first time ever) and a cap (though he did wear his cap backwards for a few pitches). What made his attire interesting though was that he was wearing deck shoes / moccasins / slippers for the entire seven innings he threw. It was tough to tell exactly, but they were not your standard softball footwear. I have seen guys pitch with steel spikes, plastic cleats, turf shoes, running shoes, etc. But this was a first. Here he is on first base:
