Quyon beats West Carleton 6-4
At the Quyon Canada Day game the Quyon Flyers defeated West Carleton Electric 6-4 amidst the fireworks on Thursday night.
Trevor Lahey had the win, while Andy Barber took the loss.
Quyon got on the board in the first with their first batter of the game Dennis McCleary hitting the first pitch he saw for a solo homer. The Flyers had the bases loaded in the first after a single by Nick Armitage and walks to Steve McCord and Randy Peck, but Barber got out of the inning with just the one run allowed
However, the Flyers put up five in the second. Jordan Kearns lead off with a single, and Lahey also singled. Both advanced a based on a passed ball. After a ground out and pop up, the Trics elected to intentionally walk Matt Greer to get the force on. A two RBI double by Armitage and subsequent three run homer by Steve McCord made it 6-0.
For the next four innings, Barber settled in and allowed only one further base runner.
It looked like Fitzroy might get on the board in the fourth. Shawn Rebertz singled, and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With two out, Mitch Taylor hit a screamer deep to centre, but an excellent catch but McCleary got the last out.
As Lahey scattered hits for the first six frames, WC finally got on the board with four in the top of the seventh. Taylor started off the inning with a single. Lahey struck out the next two. Andy Barber then singled. Trevor Barton's double scored Taylor, and Neil Murphy's double scored Barber and Barton. Jeff Cavanagh then singled, scoring Murphy to make it 6-4. Rebertz then hit a long fly ball that was just short of the fence, and the Flyers sealed the win as the fireworks went off over the Ottawa River.
