Quyon wins GOFL semi-final on walk off single by McCleary

The Quyon Flyers won the Greater Ottawa Fastball League Final Four playoffs semi-final 2-1 over West Carleton Electric on Thursday night in west Quebec. The Flyers advance to the Final against the Kars Aces.

Matt Greer had the win for Quyon, while Andy Barber took the loss.

West Carleton had 12 batters retired in order before getting on the board in the fifth. Jeff Barber led off the inning with a double, but got caught and put out in a run down when Shawn Rebertz reached on a fielder's choice. Rebertz scored from first on Michael Cavanagh's triple to put the Electric up 1-0.

Quyon had two singles (Steve McCord and Shawn Laframboise) in the second inning and stranded the runners, but otherwise didn't generate any offense in the first five innings.

The Electric got a single from Alex Boucaud in the top of the sixth, but when he tried to stretch it into a double he got thrown out.

The Flyer put two men on in the sixth with two singles (Dennis McCleary and Dave Hobbs), but Barber got out of the jam.

Jeff Barber walked in the seventh for WC with one out, but was stranded, setting up a bottom of the seventh with the visitors up 1-0.

Todd Hearty led things off for Quyon with a single. After a pop out, Lane McMurty reached on a ball that slowed down in the infield making it a tough play. Following a strike out, Luke Young hit a single that stayed in the infield to load the bases. With the bases loaded, two out, and two strikes, McCleary's single up the middle walked it off for Quyon as they won 2-1.

The Flyers will face the Kars Aces for the GOFL championship at a date to be determined.
