Carp I4C Victory comes back to beat West Carleton Electric 6-5

Carp I4C Victory came back with a run in the bottom of the seventh to beat West Carleton Electric 6-5 in GOFL play on Thursday night at the Fairgrounds.

Neil Cooke had the complete game win, while Steve Cavanagh was the losing thrower.

WC scored in the top of the first. Andy Barber walked, was moved to second on a sac bunt by brother Jeff, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Neil Murphy's ground out.

Carp evened the score in the bottom of the second as Joe Murray hit a solo shot.

I4C added a run in the third. With one out, Eric Colvin singled, followed by a Kevin McGuire single. A misplayed grounder on Al Read scored Colvin. Bobby Jack Hart reached on a fielder's choice that put out Read, and the bases were loaded when Adam Fleming walked. However, Cavanagh was able to get a fly out to end the inning, with the score 2-1 for Carp.

Fitzroy took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth. With one out, Jeff Cavanagh singled and took second when the ball was bobbled. Jon Daley's hit advanced Cavanagh to third, and JCav scored on Mike Cavanagh's blooper to right. Daley subsequently scored on a Steve Cavanagh's ground out to second.

Carp immediately responded to tie the game in the bottom of the frame. With one out, Cody Price singled, followed by a Shawn Simzer single which moved Price to third. Price scored on a sac fly to right by Colvin.

The Electric again took the lead in the fifth. With one out, Jeff Barber singled and was moved to second on Murphy's sac bunt. Derek Barber's homer to left-centre made the game 5-3 for the 'Trics.

However I4C did not give up and chipped away at the lead. The home team scored one in the bottom of the fifth. Hart singled, took second on a wild pitch and scored on Murray's RBI single.

The game was tied in the bottom of the sixth when Simzer singled and was driven in by a double by pinch hitter Eric Rosenquist.

Fitzroy put two men on in the top of the seventh but couldn't score.

Carp won the game in the bottom of the seventh. After two ground outs, Murray singled, his third hit of the night. On the move with two out, Curtis Scurr's double to the gap scored Murray and ended the game. For his scoring of the game winning run and big night at the plate, Murray earns the Caveman's Choice as player of the game.
