Quyon defeats Stittsville 10-7: the deets

from Moe Laframboise

Quyon Clinches 1st Place With Win Over Stittsville

The Quyon Flyers visited Alexander Grove Park Wednesday night for a Greater Ottawa Fastball League matchup with the 56ers with first place on the line.  The Flyers handed the ball to Matt Greer while Stittsville countered with Darren Featherstone.  Both went the distance in what was not exactly a pitcher’s duel.

Dennis McCleary led off the game with a single.  After a strikeout, McCleary scored on Greer’s RBI single.  Greer then stole second and scored on Joe McCleary’s RBI single to make it 2-0 for the visiting squad.

The home team got one back in the bottom half of the inning.  Tyler Nystedt reached on a Quyon error.  After two strikeouts, Scott Jessiman drew a walk.  Ryan Bond followed that up with a single to score Nystedt, cutting the lead in half.

The Flyers went down in order in the 2nd inning.  After a leadoff walk to John Craig in the bottom half, Greer was able to escape the inning unscathed with a couple groundouts and a strikeout.

Quyon put three more runs up in the 3rd inning.  Dennis McCleary walked and advanced to second on a Moe Laframboise bunt single.  Both would score on Joe McCleary’s three run blast to centre field, making the score 5-1 Quyon.

The 56ers answered back with three of their own in the bottom of the 3rd.  Ben Gigliotti walked to start things off.  Scott Jessiman then hit a grounder up the middle that looked like it would get through, but the second baseman was able to track it down and make a nice glove toss to retire Gigliotti.  With two outs Bond drew a walk and both he and Scott Jessiman would score on a Dan Jessiman double.  Craig singled, scoring D Jessiman, and then Trevor Scott singled but was left on base after a ground out.  5-4 Flyers.

In the 4th, Quyon added 2 more runs, but Stittsville was able to answer with 3 more of their own to tie the game.  With one out, Curtis Daley doubled.  The next batter grounded out before D McCleary was hit by a pitch.  Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and scored on Laframboise’s single up the middle.

In the bottom half, Nystedt doubled to lead off for the 56ers.  After two fly outs, S Jessiman stroked a two run bomb to left field to cut the lead to 1.  Bond then walked for the second time of the night and advanced to 3rd on D Jessiman’s second double of the night.  Craig then singled to score Bond but the other runner was held at 3.  Greer was able to get out of the inning with a strikeout.

Greer then settled in and kept the home team off the score board for the rest of the night.

Quyon added 3 more runs in the 6th inning to round out the scoring.  D McCleary hit a one out single and advanced to second on a ground out.  He then came in to score for the 4th time in the game, this time by way of another Greer RBI single.  Greer then scored on J McCleary’s triple off the right field fence.  Randy Peck singled to score McCleary from 3rd.  Final score, 10-7 for Quyon.
