56ers grind out win over Micksburg
from John Craig
Micksburg Twins and Stittsville 56ers played a lengthy Greater Ottawa Fastball League game Tuesday night with the 56ers coming out on top by a run.
The Twins started quickly when Kyle Jackson drilled the first pitch of the game over the left field fence giving them an early lead but the 56ers were able to get one back in the bottom half tying the game.
Stittsville broke it open in the second scoring five on a walk, a couple of singles and two-run homerun by Scott Jessiman giving them what proved to be a very short-lived comfy lead.
In the top of the third Micksburg came out swinging and grabbed four runs back on a couple of singles and a three run blast from Mike Moss cutting the lead to 6-5.
Both teams picked up a run in the 5th keeping it close at 7-6, nothing in the 6th and Stittsville needed 3 outs to close out the game but the Twins refused to go away.
Top of 7 Kerr Childerhose reached on an error and Kevin Humphries singled setting the table for Mike Moss’ second three-run homerun of the game giving Micksburg a 9-7 lead going into the bottom half.
Jessiman reached first for the 56ers on an error and a couple of walks to Ryan Bond and John Craig loaded the bases with nobody out for Trevor Scott who singled to score one, 9-8. Craig was then able to steal home on a passed ball to tie the game and Tyler Nystedt hit a walk off single to end the marathon, 10-9 for the 56ers.
