Kars defeats Valley As 12-0 (from Thursday)

from Chad Milne

Kars Aces moved back into first place in the GOFL standings with a convincing 12-0 win over the Ottawa Valley A’s on Thursday night. Cory Alkerton earned the shutout win for the Aces. Todd Wilson took the loss for the A’s.

In a scoreless top of the 1st inning, Kars had two hits but Wilson struck out the side. It was a different story in the 2nd inning as Kars sent 12 batters to the plate, scoring seven times including a large grand slam homerun off the bat of Cory Alkerton. Eric Colvin, making his Kars debut, also tripled and scored in the inning and Brad Porter, who got the start in right field, scorched an rbi single up the middle and later scored.

Kars looked to add to their lead in the 3rd inning, loading the bases against Adam Rueckwald, who had entered the game in relief of Wilson in the 2nd inning, but Rueckwald was able to get out of it by inducing a pop up and a ground out. Again, it was a different story for the A’s in the 4th inning as Kars sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring 5 times. The inning was highlighted by Porter’s second rbi single of the game and by Cory Morrison’s rbi single, his fourth hit of the game.

Alkerton set the A’s down in order in the 5th inning, ending the game due to the mercy rule.
