Marlies Stay Hot with Tie vs. Flyers
In GOFL action Tuesday, the Quyon COMBAT Flyers travelled to North Gower to take on the red hot Marlies. Matt Greer got the nod for Quyon while NG countered with Shannon Borho. Both went the distance for their respective clubs, each earning a tie.
Luke Young started off the game with a single, and advanced to second on a sac bunt from Shawn Laframboise. With two-out Greer drew a walk to put runners on first and second. Borho would induce a groundout to get out of the inning.
The Marlies threatened in the bottom half of the first. Kevin Shonfield walked and advanced to third on a single from Derek Dumond. After walking Stephane Vinette to load the bases, Greer would get Borho to ground out to third to escape the inning.
Quyon scored the game’s first run in the third inning. Luke Young reached 1st on an error to the shortstop, and advanced to second on a passed ball. He would then take third after a fly ball to centrefield off the bat of Laframboise. Running on contact, Young would then score on a ground ball to shortstop, narrowly beating out the throw home.
Quyon threatened again in the fourth, with newcomer Troy “Tron” Coté lining a triple to deep leftfield. He would be left stranded at third however.
The Marlies tied things up in their half of the fifth inning. With two-out and none on, Schonfield kept his strong day at the plate going with a double down the third base line. He would then score on a grounder off the bat of Dumond, with the error charged to the Quyon shortstop.
