Carp over Blitz 6-1 on Thursday night

from Eric Rosenquist

Carp I4C Victory beat the Manotick Taylor's Blitz 6-1 in GOFL play on Thursday night. Cody Price had the win while Jamie Blakely took the loss.

Carp got off to a quick start in the late game, scoring a run in the bottom of the first when lead-off hitter Shawn Simzer singled and was driven in by a two-out RBI single off the bat of catcher Al Read.

Carp added a pair of runs to put them up 3-0 after two innings. Adam Fleming hit a lead-off single but was forced out at second on a fielders choice off the bat of Curtis Scurr. Scurr then moved to third base on a double by Carp pitcher Cody Price and was driven in when Eric Rosenquist hit an infield single off Blitz pitcher Jamie Blakely's leg. Simzer then hit a fly ball to right field that was just deep enough for Price to tag up and score from 3rd.

The score stayed 3-0 until the top of the 5th when the Blitz got on the board. Tony Riches survived a lengthy at-bat in which he fouled off several two-strike pitches and eventually singled to left field. He worked his way to third on a pair of passed balls and was eventually brought home by Tony Searle's two-out single.

Carp added some insurance in the bottom of the sixth when Curtis Scurr started the inning with a single, moved to second on a one-out bunt by Rosenquist, advanced to third on a shallow single by Simzer, and then came home when Bobby Jack Hart doubled to score both Scurr and Simzer. Kevin McGuire followed Hart with a double off the fence, driving in Hart and putting Carp up 6-1.

Price then closed out the game allowing just one baserunner in the top of the 7th to seal the win for Carp.

For his 1-2 night at the plate and 7K pitching performance, Cody Price gets the nod as the Caveman Player of the Game.

"Worked his way to third on a pair of passed balls". That sounds more painful than shin splints.
