Napanee Express win gold at Western Canadians with UPDATED info
GOFL'ers Ty and Shane McNish (sons of Matt McNish) are suited up for the Express at Western Canadian U18 tournament. They played for Brockville in the OASA Midget playdowns. There are also some players on the team from the North Leeds Men's Fastball League.
Napanee Midget Express were 2-0 after day one at the U18 Western Canadians. Game 1 they faced the Fraser Valley Vipers from B.C winning 16-0. Kyle Ainslie pitched the win, Keegan Scott hit a Grand Slam and Brandon Tuck hit a 3 run home run. Game 2 they were up against Pipestone Valley of Saskatchewan, winning with a score of 9-1. Alex Douglas pitched the win.
Express went 2-0 on day two, improving to 4-0. Getting an early scare in the first game of the day vs Conquest Coyotes of Saskatchewan, being down 6-1 they battle back for the win by a final score of 13-9. Alex Douglas got the win in relief of Marcus Rice. Brandon Tucker and Douglas had home runs. Game two had them against the Calahoo Chiefs of Alberta, winning by a score if 10-0, Kyle Ainslee had the 5-inning win only surrendering one hit. Brandon Tucker continued to swing the hot stick by adding two more home runs to his weekend total.
On Sunday the Express defeated Nanaimo Breakers of BC and the Irma Tigers of Alberta to finish at 6-0 in round robin play.
On Monday, the Express won the gold medal game against Irma to win the Western Canadian Championship. See here for the full story.
