Kars beats Stittsville 5-2 in Carp

The Kars Aces defeated Stittsville 56ers 5-2 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League action in Carp on Monday night.

Cory Alkerton earned the complete game win, while Dan Konkle took the loss with relief from Darren Featherstone.

Kars got started early in the first frame. Nick Ellis took the second pitch he saw deep for a solo shot to lead off the game. After a ground out, Kristian Knapp hit a sharp liner at Konkle who was struck in the arm. Konks stayed in the game despite appearing to be in pain. The next hitter, Cory Alkerton, then stroked a no-doubter to centre field to make it 3-0 for Kars. Konkle got out of the inning with two pop ups.

The 56ers responded in the bottom of the first. Ryan Bond lead off with a single, but was erased when John Craig hit into a fielder's choice. Featherstone then doubled, scoring Craig. Two grounds out later, it was 3-1 after the first inning for Kars.

The Aces pushed another across in the second. Chad Milne started things with a single. Jordan Shipclark then hit into a fielder's choice. Jon Ferguson singled, moving Shipclark to third. Ellis then grounded out, but got the RBI as Shipclark scored to make it 4-1 for Kars.

Stittsville got another run in the second. After a ground out, Trevor Scott doubled to left. Darren Ladouceur reached on an infield single. A wild pitch moved both runners sixty feet. Shawn McKenzie's blooper dropped into right field, but Scott was thrown out at home. Bond then singled, scoring Ladouceur to make it 4-2 for the Aces.

Kars got their fifth run in the fourth. Milne walked to start the inning. He moved to second on a wild pitch, and took third on a passed ball. When Ferguson grounded to the pitcher, Milne tried to take home but was thrown out. Ellis then singled and put Ferg on third. With a Morrison walk, the bases were juiced. Knapp's grounder to short was misplayed, scoring Ferguson and making it 5-2.

The next three innings were relatively uneventful, and the game ended 5-2 for Kars.
