Thursday
night in Carp, Kars Aces showed why they lead the league in runs scored,
pounding out a big 10-2 win over the Ottawa Valley A’s. Cory Alkerton got the
win for Kars. Adam Rueckwald was tagged with the loss, while Todd Wilson saw
action in relief for the A’s.
Kars
went to work quickly, scoring a run in the 1st inning after loading
the bases with one out. With Nick Ellis and Kristian Knapp aboard on walks and
after Cory Alkerton reached on a passed ball third strike, Chad Milne hit a
perfectly placed high fly into right-centre field that managed to drop in
between three A’s players, scoring Ellis. Rueckwald was able to avoid further
damage by inducing a groundout and getting a strikeout to end the inning with
the bases still loaded.
Kars
then exploded for nine runs in the 2nd inning, with every player
except one registering at least one hit and one run. Matt Alkerton started the
inning with a huge homerun to left field that landed somewhere in the middle of
the second diamond. Jordan Adams then singled and was sacrificed to second by
Ellis. The next six Kars’ batters all registered a hit, with RBIs going to Cory
Morrison, C. Alkerton (2), Milne, and Danny Powers. After Powers’ single, M.
Alkerton came to the plate and mashed his second homerun of the inning, a 3-run
line shot over the fence in left-centre field. Adams kept the hit parade going
with his second hit of the inning, narrowly missing a homerun of his own,
instead settling for a double off the top of the fence in left field. With
Wilson on in relief, the next two Kars batters went down in order to end the
inning.
C.
Alkerton carried a perfect game into the 4th inning, but lost it
when Lindsay Medynski worked a walk with two out. The A’s broke through with two
runs in the 5th, but could get no closer as the Aces won 10-2.
