ISC Canada East Qualifier cancelled

from Blair Setford

The provincial situation stemming from the coronavirus pandemic is slowly improving, but given the current pace of normalization, regrettably we are cancelling the 2020 ISC Canada East Qualifier, which had already been rescheduled for July 17-19 in Mitchell.

Health and wellbeing for our players, officials and fans was always the first priority and given the pace of re-opening across the province, we don't see how we could be in a position where we could safely hold our tournament in mid-July based on the way events are unfolding.

Any Canada East teams that are interested in playing in the 2020 ISC World Tournament - which is still being planned contingent on local and state conditions - should contact the ISC prior to July 1 directly through Executive Director Larry Fisher at
iscfastpitch@gmail.com.

We want to thank AJ Moses, in Mitchell, as well as Trevor Topping, our UiC, for the work that they had done in helping us plan for the qualifier. If circumstances permit, we will still look to run the Ontario Challenge Cup - and potentially look at affiliation with one or two other events - in late summer/early fall. More information will become available as things develop.

As always, we thank all of our teams and officials for their continued loyalty with the ISC and we look forward to safely returning to ball diamonds hopefully in the not too distant future.

Update from the Glen Cairn Men's Fastball League

from Eric Colvin / Chris Golden

May 27:

We've had so many of you reach out to us inquiring about the 2020 GCMFL season. At this point we are still not cleared to resume Fastball activities. While the executive is working on protocols behind the scene to ensure a safe and responsible return to play, the following phases must be approved by provincial and city health officials before we can hit the fields again:
  1. Gatherings of more than 5 people must be approved.
  2. While fields are currently open for RECREATIONAL use, the...y are still not cleared for game or practice use. The City of Ottawa must still approve permits before we can use the fields.
  3. Once the fields are approved for use, we need to review distancing guidelines as we may need to limit the number of spectators at each game.
While we are eager to hit the fields, we must continue to do our part to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Fingers crossed that we will be able to see you all back on the diamond at some point this summer! Please continue to monitor our website for updates on the 2020 season.

June 1:

Just wanted to send a quick note regarding our league tournament for this year. Since we are cancelling the regular June dates, we have reserved the Carp diamonds for the weekend of August 28-30 in hopes of completing a league tournament that weekend. Details and updates to follow once we have any new information to share.
