Glen tournament schedule released

The Glen Cairn Men's Fastball League will be hosting their annual tournament at the Carp Fairgrounds from Friday June 9 to Sunday June 11.

There are 12 teams participating. Seven are from the Glen: West Carleton Electric U20, KookiJar, Corfix, West End Landscapes, Laurysen Kitchens, Micksburg Kool Vent Heat, Upper Canada Elevators. (Stittsville U17 is in the league but at another event.)

The five additional teams are PJMP Pigeons from Quebec, the Rogues from the Blackburn league, Westport Storm U20, Springbrook Royals U20 and a team from the Fitzroy league.

2006 Bronze medal team members and players from 1970-2018 will take on the current Micksburg Twins under the lights. Hotdogs, canteen, 50/50 and prizes. Proceeds supporting Minor Ball in the Valley!

Harbour Ball tournament this weekend

The annual Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball League tournament will be held this weekend at the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre. Action starts at 6 p.m. on Friday June 2, with games all day Saturday and finals on Sunday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Eleven teams are participating; eight teams from Harbour Ball plus the Stittsville 56ers U17, a team from the Carp men's league and team from Carlsbad Springs.

It goes without saying that cold refreshments will be available all weekend.

Orleans and Osgoode tie Friday night

The Orleans Rebels and the Osgoode Chiefs tied 3-3 on Friday night at the first over Greater Ottawa Fastball League game at the Blackburn Arena diamond.

Andy Barber threw three for the Rebels and had four innings of relief from his brother Jeff. Matt McKay threw for Osgoode.

Jefferson Roman had a solo homer and Manny Luna a two run shot for Orleans.

The Rebels were to host the Kars Aces this Friday, but the Blackburn Fun Fair is in town so the game will be postponed to another date.

Team 518 wins Elkland Molly

Team 518 from Albany, NY won the Elkland Molly tournament on the Memorial Day weekend, defeating Fishers from Stevens, PA.

Westport tournament this weekend

There is a tournament this weekend at the Westport and North Crosby diamonds, with eight teams participating.

Four U20 teams are registered: Westport, Springbrook, Napanee and Northumberland from Cobourg/Grafton. Four teams from the North Leeds league are participating: the host Westport Lumberjacks, North Augusta Trappers, Lyn Lightning and Maitland.

Games start Friday night at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. with games at both diamonds. Play starts up Saturday at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. with games on both diamonds, and remaining games all in Westport.  The "B" final is at 5 p.m. and the "B" final is at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening.

Micksburg wins 8-1 over WC

The Micksburg Twins won 8-1 over West Carleton Electric in Carp on Wednesday night in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play.

Joran Graham threw four innings to take the win, while Noah Fleurie saw two innings of relief. Ben Broek took the loss and had relief from Steve Cavanagh.

Quyon wins two in Manotick

The Quyon Flyers won two games in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play on Wednesday night in Manotick.

Game one saw the Flyer defeat the Kars Aces 6-2. Matt Greer had the win, while Brad Porter took the loss with relief from Cory Alkerton

The late game had Quyon beating the Manotick Brewers by a score of 3-2. Greer again had the win, while Carley Shane took the loss. Ryan Clare had a homer for the Brewers to tie the game at two in the bottom of the fifth. Dennis McCleary homered to give the Quebecers the lead in the top of the sixth.

New league in the Napanee area

There is a new five team men's fastball league started up this year in the Napanee area.

Teams involved are the Napanee U17, Napanee U20, Napanee Men's, and Party Lake all playing home games at the Napanee Fairgrounds on Thursdays and a men's team playing out of Inverary.

GOFL starts off in Manotick

The Greater Ottawa Fastball League season started off on Wednesday night in Manotick with a doubleheader.

Manotick 2 Orleans 2

The first game saw the Manotick Brewers and Orleans Rebels tie at 2-2. Andy Barber threw for Orleans. For Manotick both Cory Baldwin and Kody Blois pitched. Blois, a new player in the GOFL, is the Member of Parliament for Kings-Hants in Nova Scotia. 

Orleans was leading 2-0 into the sixth, when Jack Becker's RBI double scored Tyler Branchaud who had singled. Becker was thrown out attempting to take third. Ryan Clare's solo homer tied the match at two.

Quyon 9 Osgoode 2

The second game of the doubleheader saw the Quyon Flyer defeat the Osgoode Chiefs 9-2 in six innings. Matt Greer earned the win while Matt McKay took the loss. Shawn Laframboise had a solo homer for the Flyers.

Note: the Kars - Micksburg game scheduled for Thursday has been postponed.

Napanee tournament schedule released

The Napanee tournament, hosted by the U20 Express team, has posted the schedule for this long weekend's event. There are six teams participating: Napanee U20, Cobourg U20, Cobourg U23, Quebec, Westport and Micksburg.

Tuesday night GOFL game postponed

The Tuesday night game in the Greater Ottawa Fastball League scheduled between the Kars Aces and West Carleton Electric was postponed due to a combination of player availability issues and cold weather. The game will be rescheduled.

North Leeds league has 8 teams this year

The North Leeds Men's Fastball League will have eight teams this season, up from seven last year.

Lyn, North Augusta, Greenbush, Westport, Eastons Corners As, Eastons Corners Haymakers and Maitland are all back from 2022. Spencerville will be rejoining the league as well.

Games are anticipated to start after the long weekend in May.

GOFL starts tonight

The Greater Ottawa Fastball League 2023 season gets started off tonight (Tuesday) with West Carleton Electric hosting the Kars Aces in Fitzroy Harbour at 8:30 p.m.

Other games in Week 1 include Orleans Rebels at Manotick Brewers at 7 p.m. and Quyon Flyers at Osgoode Chiefs at 9 p.m., both games on Wednesday in Manotick.

Thursday night sees the defending champion Micksburg Twins hosting the Aces at 8:00 p.m.

Local men's fastball leages start up the season

Local men's fastball leagues are getting started up this month.

Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball League kicked off on May 10. Harbour Ball has six men's teams, a U17 team and a U20 team, with four games every Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre.

Glen Cairn Men's Fastball League start was postponed a week due to field conditions but is anticipated to get going May 15. Similar to Harbour Ball, the Glen has six men's teams, a U17 team and a U20 team. Games are Mondays, Tuesdays and some Wednesdays at the AY Jackson SS filed in Kanata.

Blackburn Men's Fastball League season is kicking off on Tuesday, May 16 with a six team league. BMFL games are scheduled Tuesday at 7 pm and 9 pm, Thursday at 9 pm and Sunday at 6 pm and 8 pm at the Blackburn Arena diamond.

Carp Men's Fastball League started on May 9. They have four teams playing on both fields at the Carp Fairgrounds every Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Ashton Men's Fastball League is back for another season starting May 18 after getting pushed back a week due to field conditions. They have four teams that play Thursday nights at the Cavanagh Community Centre in Ashton.

Shawville Men's Fastpitch League will start up May 15 after a "sort out" on May 8. The Shawville league has four teams, with a lot of young guys playing, on Monday nights at the Shawville R.A. on the Quebec side.

Greater Ottawa Fastball League kicks off on May 16. There are seven teams in the GOFL this year and the full schedule is available at GOFL.ca. Teams and home diamonds are West Carleton Electric (Fitzroy Harbour and Carp), Micksburg Twins (Micksburg), Quyon Flyers (Shawville), Orleans Rebels (Blackburn), Osgoode Chiefs, Kars Aces, and Manotick Brewers (all at Manotick).
