Long time men's fastball sponsor Jack Fireman dies

The was an announcement that long time men's fastball sponsor Jack Fireman died this weekend. A successful lawyer, he was the money behind the Toronto Gators - the nickname being short for "litigators".

Here is a write up on Twitter that gives an idea of the time, money and energy Mr. Fireman put into fastpitch softball: https://twitter.com/TorontoGators/status/1315336121501519872.

Team White wins the Orleans Men's Fastball League

The Orleans Men's Fastball League just got their season completed on Thursday night before the Ontario Stage 2 regulations went back into effect in Ottawa (which would have prevented games from being played).

Team White won the A Championship Title with a 9-2 win over Team Orange. Andy Barber earned the win while Jeff Barber took the loss.

The B Championship saw Team Red win 5-3 over Team Blue.

Congratulations to Andy Barber for salvaging a Covid fastball season in the east end, and complying with City of Ottawa and Province of Ontario regulations to make it happen.

Brewers win Shawville league playoff title (now with photo)

The Trudeau Collision Brewers defeated the Gannon / Blackburn Electric Bucks in the Shawville Men's Fastpitch League playoff final on Saturday evening by a score of 8-2 to earn the title.

Joran Graham earned the win while Gregg Garrity, in his second game of the day, took the loss.

The Brewers put up eight runs in the first inning, sending 12 men to the plate. Ryan McIntyre had a bases loaded double which cashed two, while Chris Hearty hit a grand slam to help the cause. For the remainder of the game, Garrity shut down the Brewers. However, the Bucks were only able to score two runs in the top of the second, led by hits from Jared Murray and Ron Laronde.

The Bucks advanced to the finals by defeating the Tubman Autobody Twins 6-3 in the semi-final earlier in the day. Garrity earned the win while Adam Rueckwald took the loss.

The Bucks were led by Murray and Chad Costello who both hit solo homers, as well as Laronde who had a sacrifice fly and a double to account for two RBIs.

Congratulations to the Shawville R.A., especially Matt Greer, for putting on successful and enjoyable two month men's fastpitch season despite the pandemic restrictions in west Quebec.

Shawville league Thursday night results, Saturday final day set

The Shawville Men's Fastpitch League playoffs continued on Thursday night with two games at the R.A. Centre.

The first match of the night was the "winner - winner" game of the double elim playoffs, with the Brewers facing the Twins. The Brewers got out to an early 7-0 lead in the first and went on to a 9-0 run rule shortened victory. Joran Graham earned the win while Adam Rueckwald took the loss. The Brewers advance directly to the League final.

The nightcap saw the "loser - loser" game with the Bucks edging the Athletics 4-2'. The Athletics were eliminated from the playoffs and the Bucks face the Twins at 3 pm on Saturday to see which team moves on the Final at 6 pm that night. Gregg Garrity was the winning pitcher while Matt Greer threw well in a losing effort.

The As got off to a 2-0 lead on a Greer RBI in the first and a later run scored by Greer on an error.

The Bucks halved the lead by captain Jared Murray solo shot to left field in the fifth.

The Bucks then scored three in top of what could be referred to as an event-filled seventh inning. The first run was on a bases loaded sacrifice fly RBI by Kaelan Ireland and a subsequent misplayed fly ball with two out gave them a 4-2 lead, which the Bucks kept despite the Athletics threatening in the bottom of the frame.
