Scott Searle added to the Gil Read Coaches Honour Roll
Scott Searle of Orleans was named to the Gil Read Coaches Honour Roll at the Ontario Amateur Softball Association annual meeting this past weekend.
The most recent winner of the award from our area was Gil himself who was given the honour posthumously in 2008.
The OASA annually presents an award to an outstanding coach in memory of Gil Read. Gil, who died tragically in 2007, was from Kanata. He was an outstanding coach, instructor and leader who made innumerable contributions to the game of softball at the community, provincial and national levels.
Scott has made an enormous contribution to the game over the years both on the field as a coach for both the men's and women's game, and through his role as a coach instructor. Scott's most recent success was as head coach of the gold medal winning Team Ontario at the 2022 Canada Games in Niagara.
Scott and Gil were friends, and a normally loquacious Scott was at a loss for words when first surprised with being recognized at the meeting. He then went on to reflect on his friendship with Gil and how special it was to win the award named after his friend and mentor.
The most recent winner of the award from our area was Gil himself who was given the honour posthumously in 2008.
