Carp I4C Victory Add Two More for 2007 Season

from Shawn Williams

The Carp I4C Victory are pleased to announce the addition of two more players to the club’s 2007 roster. Joining the Victory on a full-time basis for this season are Catcher and Designated Player, Casey Poldervaart and First Baseman and Designated Player Kevin Griffin.

Both Poldervaart and Griffin played for the Victory on 2006 in a limited capacity and Poldervaart played for the Victory in 2003 in the Elkland Softball Association Labour Day Tournament in Elkland, PA.

“We’re really pleased to add a couple of guys like Casey and Kevin to our line-up,” said Carp Head Coach and General Manager, Shawn Williams. Casey bring great passion and enthusiasm for the game and Griff brings a quiet confidence to the plate. He can also help us out in the pitching department too,” added Williams.

Carp Player-Assistant Coach, Eric Rosenquist stated, “We’re a little younger this year and hopefully have a little more pop at the plate with Casey and Kevin in the line-up. They are both threats to hit the ball hard somewhere.”

The Carp I4C Victory play in the expanded nine team Greater Ottawa Fastball League. All home games are Thursday nights at the Carp Fairgrounds with games starting at 8:30 PM.

Smiths Falls Redmen Junior Fastball revived

From the Brockville Recorder - Times:

Smiths Falls Redmen starting up again

SMITHS FALLS -- For many years, the Smiths Falls Redmen were one of the top junior men's fastball teams in Ontario.

After being inactive for the past several years, the Redmen will be starting up again.

Originally founded in the late 1970's by high school teacher Ray Madden, the Redmen won a number of tournaments, league and provincial titles over the course of their 20-year existence.

While the junior Redmen have been inactive, the name has been carried by Smiths Falls teams at the mite through midget levels in the Augusta Minor Fastball Association.

The junior Redmen will compete in an intermediate men's fastball league, enter a number of tournaments and compete in the provincial championships in August in Toanche.

Any junior-aged players (ages 19 to 23) who are interested in trying out for the Redmen are asked to contact Terry Shea at 613-283-5349.

Carp I4C Victory Re-launch Website
from Shawn Williams

The Carp I4C Victory is pleased to announce that today it has re-launched its team website, http://www.i4cvictory.com/, in advance of the opening of the 2007 fastball season. The site will feature player information, schedule and several photo galleries.

“As the sponsor of a team from Silicon Valley North and having a number of players on our team from the field of hi-tech, I felt it was really important that our team had a website that was fresh and current,” said Neil Cooke, sponsor and one of the team’s pitchers.

“I enjoyed building the site and will continue to develop and maintain it throughout the season,” added Webmaster and I4C Victory outfielder, Mike Money. “I enjoy working on projects like this. I love the game and it’s a great tool for letting people know what’s happening with our team,” said Money. “And besides, I can put some really candid shots of the guys on the site without most of them knowing about it!”

The I4C Victory compete in the expanded nine team Greater Ottawa Fastball League (GOFL) and play all home games at the Carp Fairgrounds. This year the Victory will play its home games on Thursday nights with all games starting at 8:30 PM.

Eastern Ontario ISC II "Challenge Cup" set for McNab diamonds

This just in - the ISC II Challenge Cup tournament for eastern Ontario will be held at the McNab Centre diamonds this August.

This is the first year for the 'eastern' version of this tournament, which has been previously held in the southwestern Ontario for the last three years in Hillsburgh.

The tournament will be held on the weekend of August 24-26, hosted by Harold MacMillan and his capable crew from the McNab/Braeside Minor Softball Association. The McNab diamonds are about 15 minutes northwest of Arnprior off Highway 17 and feature three lit diamonds which should make scheduling easier.

The Challenge Cup format has area leagues send representatives to play off in a double knockout tournament, with the winner earning a berth to represent the area in the 2008 ISC Tournament of Champions in Wisconsin.

The number of spots to be allotted in the Challenge Cup and the participating leagues will be determined over the next couple of months. If your league is interested in participating, contact Blair Setford at blairjs_at_rogers.com or fitzroyfastball_at_yahoo.ca and we can work out the details.

The GOFL already confirmed its participation at the 2007 league meeting earlier this year.
