Quyon 10 Micksburg 5

The Quyon Flyers beat the Micksburg Twins 10-5 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play on Thursday night in west Quebec.

Trevor Lahey had the win for the Flyers, with relief from Matt Greer. Matt McIntyre took the loss and had relief from 17 year old John Enright in his GOFL debut.

Lahey helped his own cause with a two run bomb, and Dave Hobbs also hit a two run shot for Quyon. Quinton Rook launched a three run homer for the Twins.

Glen Cairn Men's Fastball League tournament June 8-10

The Glen Cairn Men's Fastball League will host their annual tournament on June 8 to 10 in Carp.  There are 12 teams participating - all nine from the Glen, two teams from the Blackburn Men's Fastball  League (Bytek Braves and The Rogues) plus a team from the Bancroft league.

I4C wins over Stittsville

I4C Victory defeated Stittsville 56ers 9-7 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League at the Grove on Wednesday. Matt McNish had the pitching win, while Kyle Olson took the loss with relief from Luc D'Entremont.

Kars edges Valley 5-3

The Kars Aces beat the Ottawa Valley Aces 5-3 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League action in Manotick on Wednesday night.

Brad Porter had the win while Ben Broek took the loss. Matt Alkerton had two hits and three RBIs for the Aces.

GOFL Week #4 (updated)

The fourth week of the Greater Ottawa Fastball League season has four games on the schedule.

On Wednesday, the Ottawa Valley As (0-3) travel to play the Kars Aces (2-2) at Manotick, starting at 8 pm. At 9 pm that night, the Stittsville 56ers (0-2-1) host I4C Victory (2-1) at the Grove.

Thursday night in west Quebec, the Quyon Flyers (2-0-1) have their home opener at 7:30 pm against the Micksburg Twins (2-0-1).

Friday night fastball has the Twins hosting West Carleton Electric (2-2) up in Micksburg at 8 pm.

The game originally scheduled between WC Electric and Ottawa Valley on Thursday will be moved to another date later in the season.

Kingston Axemen finish second at Molly Sherman Memorial

The Kingston Axemen finished in second place at the ten team Molly Sherman Memorial event in Elkland, PA this past weekend.

The Axemen finished with a 6-1 record, losing only to the Northeast Naturals in the final game.

GOFLers on the Axemen include Joran Graham (Micksburg), Matt Greer (Quyon), Nick Ellis and Brad Pender (both Kars).

U14 Peewee Boys House League tournament in Fitzroy Harbour

Fitzroy Harbour is hosting a U14 Peewee Boys House League event on Saturday July 14. Cost is only $100 per team and each team is guaranteed at least two games.

I4C 8 Ottawa Valley As 5

I4C Victory defeated the Ottawa Valley As 8-5 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play in Carp on Thursday night.

Matt McNish had the win for I4C, while Adam Rueckwald took the loss, getting relief from Ben Broek.

Chris MacFarlane mashed two homers for I4C and rookie Riley Dunbar also hit one out for Victory.

Newcomer John Sullivan had two runs batted in for the As.

Micksburg and Quyon tie at 5

In Micksburg's Greater Ottawa Fastball League home opener tonight, the hometown Twins and the Quyon Flyers battled to a 5-5 tie.

Corey Costello and Joran Graham threw for the 'Burg while Trevor Lahey and Matt Greer chucked for Quyon.

Costello and Quinton Rook hit homers for the Twins.

A quick roundup of results in the Greater Ottawa Fastball League from Wednesday night.

Kemptville Black Sox 6 Stittsville 56ers 6

The GOFL's first game in Kemptville since 2004 saw the affiliate Black Sox team tie the 56ers at six. Dan Thompson and Shannon Borho threw for the Sox, and they both hit home runs as did Hugh Murray. Kyle Olson and Corey Baldwin threw for the 56ers and Dan Jessiman hit an HR.

Kars Aces 7 West Carleton Electric 0

In the first game of the doubleheader in Manotick, the Aces parlayed a four run first to cruise to a 7-0 win in six innings. Brad Porter had the win, allowing only three hits. Andy Barber took the loss.

West Carleton Electric 8 Kars Aces 7

The second game saw a much closer match up with several lead changes.

Steve Cavanagh had the win on the slab and also drove in the tying run and scored the winning run in the seventh. Alex Boucaud hit a homer for WC. Jordan Shipclark had four RBIs with a double and homer for Kars.

Brad Porter took the loss for Kars, coming in on late relief for Luke Severson.

GOFL Week #3

The Greater Ottawa Fastball League's third week has five games on the schedule.

On Wednesday night in Manotick, the Kars Aces (1-1) will host West Carleton Electric (1-1) in a doubleheader with games at 7 pm and 9 pm.

Also on Wednesday, the new affiliated team the Kemptville Black Sox will play their first game in the GOFL, with a home game at 8:30 pm in Kemptville against the Stittsville 56ers (0-2).

Thursday sees the Micksburg Twins (2-0) first home game, with the Quyon Flyers (2-0) in town. First pitch is 8 pm.

The Ottawa Valley As (0-2) will host I4C Victory (1-1) at 8:30 pm on Thursday night at the Carp Fairgrounds.

Elkland Molly Tournament this weekend

The Elkland Molly Sherman Memorial Tournament - affectionately known as "The Molly" is scheduled for this upcoming weekend in Elkland, PA. There are ten teams from Pennsylvania, New York and Ontario.

The Kingston Axemen and Broker4Tickets will be participating.

The Kars Aces won 8-5 over the Ottawa Valley As in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play on Thursday in Carp.

Brad Porter went the distance for the win for Kars. Ben Broek took the loss for Valley and had relief from Adam Rueckwald.

Quyon 5 Stittsville 1 at the Grove

Quyon Flyers won their second straight Greater Ottawa Fastball League game on Wednesday night at the Grove with a 5-1 win over the Stittsville 56ers.

Matt Greer had the pitching win, while Trevor Lahey saw action in relief and got the save. Kyle Olson was tagged with the loss for the 56ers.

Twins defeat Aces 10-3

The Micksburg Twins defeated the Kars Aces 10-3 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play in Manotick on Wednesday night.

Joran Graham had a dominant performance in earning the pitching win, allowing only two hits and striking out 20. Luke Severson took the loss for Kars, in relief of Brad Porter, and getting relief from Cory Alkerton.

WC Electric prevails 19-11 over I4C Victory

It was a wild one in Fitzroy Harbour on Tuesday night as the West Carleton Electric defeated I4C Victory 19-11 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play.

Steve Cavanagh went the distance and earned the win for WC, while Ty Alexander took the loss in relief of Neil Cooke for Victory.

I4C got out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the third, but the home team answered back with five in the bottom of the frame.

Victroy took a 7-5 lead in the fourth but Fitzroy was able to plate seven in their half to go up 12-7.

The visitors narrowed the score to 12-9 in fifth and the Electric responded with a single. In the sixth, I4C narrowed the gap to 13-11, but a seven run sixth inning for West Carleton ended the game on the run rule.

Chris Costello hit two home runs for WC, and Trevor Barton also hit one out (though he was called out for passing the runner on the first base).

Chris MacFarlane hit two homers for I4C, while Alexander had two triples.

GOFL week #2

The Greater Ottawa Fastball League second week features four games on the schedule.

Tuesday sees West Carleton Electric (0-1) hosting I4C Victory (1-0) at 8:30 pm in Fitzroy Harbour.

On Wednesdays, the Micksburg Twins (1-0) will travel to Manotick to face the Kars Aces at 8 pm. This is the Aces' first game of the campaign.

Also on Wednesday, the Quyon Flyers (1-0) will face the Stittsville 56ers (0-1) at the Grove at 9 pm.

Ottawa Valley As (0-1) host the Kars Aces on Thursday night at the Carp Fairgrounds. First pitch is 8:30 pm.

Quyon wins 11-5 over Ottawa Valley

The Quyon Flyers won 11-5 over the Ottawa Valley As in Greater Ottawa Fastball League action in Carp on Thursday night.

Matt Greer had the win on the slab in relief of starter Trevor Lahey. Adam Rueckwald took the loss and had relief from Ben Broek.

Greer hit a three run homer to help his cause and Lahey had a solo shot for the Flyers. Gavan Boyd hit one out for Valley.

Looking for Women Fastball Players

The Ottawa ExPros on the Ottawa Valley Fastball League (formerly the Canada's Capital Fastball league) is looking for more players for this season. Games are once a week and are played in Orleans, Carp, Stittsville, and Quyon. All ages and skill levels are welcome. They have a number of players who have returned after lengthy softball breaks so if you are someone who hasn't laced up cleats it a while, you will fit right in. Email edurant@blg.com. Micksburg defeats WC Electric 11-1 in season opener

The defending champions Micksburg Twins defeated West Carleton Electric 11-1 in the season opener for the Greater Ottawa Fastball League.

Joran Graham had the win for the Twins, and also went 4-4 at the plate with two solo homers, four runs scored and three RBIs. Scott Conroy also hit a home run for Micksburg and had three RBIs.

Steve Cavanagh took the loss. Shawn Rebertz had the lone RBI for West Carleton.

GOFL week #1

The first week of the Greater Ottawa Fastball League season is about to begin.

With seven teams plus an affiliated team this season, it promises to be another great season of men's fastpitch softball in eastern Ontario.

On Tuesday, it's a rematch of last year's finals, with the Micksburg Twins playing West Carleton Electric at 8:30 pm in Fitzroy Harbour.

Wednesday night sees the Stittsville 56ers hosting I4C Victory at 9 pm at the Grove.

Thursday's game is at the Carp Fairgrounds as the Ottawa Valley As hope to continue their good play after last year's playoff run when they host the Quyon Flyers at 8:30 pm.

The Kars Aces have the first week off. The affiliated Kemptville team has their first game on May 23.

Barrhaven league looking for a pitcher

Further to my post below about the Barrhaven Men's Fastpitch Association, I received an email from Michael McPherson who plays in the league. Mike said that the league is looking for a player to join the league who can throw their modified style of pitching.
