BMFL playoff posts

Posted late due to logistics issues - more updates to come.

Initial post

The 2025 Blackburn Men's Fastball League playoffs get underway on Thursday, September 11, at 7:00 pm at the Blackburn arena diamond. The playoff format is double knockout.

Goodfellows and Bandits finished 1st and 2nd respectively and earned a bye.

Game 1 will feature the 4th place Blue Jays against the 5th place Braves. Andy Barber will toe the rubber for the Blue Jays and will look to lead his team offensively along with Spencer Rodd. Nick Bowman will pitch for the Braves. Keep an eye on the 38-year veteran of the BMFL league, Steve Walman, with a one game home run streak.

Winner of game 1 will face Goodfellows, led by Shannon Borho, on Sunday at 6:00 pm.

Game 2 at 9:00 pm will feature the 3rd place Rogues against the 6th place Orioles. Derick Bulley and Matt Cox will likely see some pitching duties for the Rogues. Will Lowe will pitch for the Orioles and Manuel Luna will look to cash in some runners via the long ball.

Winner of game 2 will face the Bandits, led by Max Lalonde, Sunday at 8:00 pm.

Games will be played Thursday and Sunday throughout the playoffs with Tuesday being used for Sunday rainouts.

BMFL Playoff Update #1

In game 1, the Blue Jays defeated the Braves 8-1. Andy Barber picked up the win and Nick Bowman the loss. Matt Ellis broke the scoring and gave the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo shot. Andy Barber hit a two-run home run in top of the 4th. Miguel Paillé and Anthony De Carlo also contributed with big hits contributing 2 RBIs.

The Blue Jays face Goodfellows Sunday at 6:00 pm.

Orioles defeated the Rogues 5-3. Will Lowe earned the win, 7IPs, 7 Ks. Matt Cox took the loss, 7IPs, 9 Ks.

After getting out of a bases loaded one-out jam in the top half, the Rogues struck first with textbook small ball. Tyler Cox lead off with a single, Derek Bergeron moved him over to 2nd on a bunt, and Marcel Mondoux cashed him with a double. Doug Cranston smoked a single to right to add to the lead. Orioles lead off the 2nd with a solo bomb, followed later by a 2-run double by Wilmer Lovera to take the lead. They’d strike again in the third when Lowe hit a 0-2 pitch into CF to make it 5-2. Cranston would cash Mondoux in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 2, but that’s as far as it would get as both pitchers threw shutout ball the remaining 4 innings.

The Orioles face the Bandits Sunday at 8:00 pm.

The USA, despite having ace Marco Diaz, finished the event with a three win and four loss record, tied for fifth place with Dominican Republic.
