Valley As win 10-1 over WC Electric WITH DETAILS

The Ottawa Valley As won 10-1 over West Carleton Electric on Thursday night in Carp in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play.

Ben Broek had the win, throwing a 3-hitter. Steve Cavanagh took the loss and had relief from Matt McKay.

WC scored their first batter of the game - but that was it. Alex Boucaud led off with a screamer that hit the newly installed 240 sign in centrefield. He advanced to third on a Jeff Cavanagh infield hit and scored on Steve Cavanagh's ground out.

Valley responded in the bottom of the first as Broek's solo shot to centre tied the game at one.

The As sent 11 men to the plate in the third. Lindsay Medysnki led off with a single but was out on Ben Wade's fielder's choice. Wade stole second and advanced to third on Clayton Vance's single. Vance moved to second on a throw to the plate. Broek then hit a screamer up the middle, which was knocked down deep on the dirt by second baseman Jon Daley, but Wade and the speedy Vance both scored on the infield hit. Ryley Burns then hit a two run shot. Kyle Couvieau reached on a dropped third strike, advanced on a single by Dave Baird and scored on Sean Lecuyer's single. It was 6-1 for Valley after three.

McKay entered to pitch for WC in the fourth. He gave up a run when Broek doubled moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Couvieau's single.

The game ended in the sixth when Valley scored three to put the mercy rule in effect. Couvieau hit a three run shot to right field, scoring Broek and Burns who had both walked.

Nick Bowman sent on a BMFL preview for the 2019 season. Thanks Nick!

The Blackburn Men's Fastball League is back for another season of ball in the east end of Ottawa.

The BMFL is down to seven teams of 13 players this year as the Guzzlers have folded.
The defending champs, the Knights, are looking to capture their 4th consecutive title with the same team as last year. Jamie Blakely and Ryan Chatten toe the rubber for the Knights with Chris MacFarlane and Derek Martin leading their offense.
2018 runner-up Goodfellows will be hungry for revenge. Shannon Borho and Will Lowe are the two pitchers. Defensively and offensively, Jordan Adams, Scotty Adams and Brendan Clarke will lead Goodfellows.
The Bandits will look to continue to strong finish in 2018 with the same roster. Father son duo Pierre Lalonde and Max Lalonde pitch for the Bandits. Bandits have a solid offensive lineup 1 through 13 with power throughout; half of their team hit homeruns last year.
The Bytek Braves are looking to improve on their finish from last year. Will Mood and Nick Bowman are on the mound with Matt Bowman and Jeremy Regan providing key elements of their offensive.
The 2018 regular season champs, the Blue Jays, are looking to make their way back into the Finals with the addition of pitcher Jeff Barber. Brother Andy will lead also toe the rubber and provide offense. Spencer Rodd and Andre Mainville will also be key offensive contributors.
Gloucester Heating is now N-Powerment Elite with slick new jerseys. Derick  Bulley, Derek Bergeron and Alex Levesque will be pitching for the Elite. New addition Jon Ferguson should help the already dangerous offensive lineup.
Already off to a strong 2 and 0 start, the Rogues are hungry for playoff success. Matt Cox will be doing most of the pitching duties for the Rogues with Jefferson Roman leading the offense.

Orleans defeats I4C on Wednesday

by Travis Valois

The Orleans Rebels kicked off their season against I4C in Manotick. Neil Cooke opened up throwing for I4C while Andy Barber threw for Orleans. The first inning saw Orleans get on the board. Kevin Shonfield singled with one out then advanced on a passed ball. Derick Bulley drove him in to put the score at 1-0.  The Rebels had a clean half inning. The Rebels added to their lead in the 2nd when Ryan Mitts scored. The 3rd saw two more runs tacked on when Derick Bulley drove in Derek Barber who had reached first on a walk. A couple errors plated Bulley.

I4C got on the board in the 4th inning. Jeff Barber took over for Andy and struck out the first batter before giving up a pair of singles to Ryan Clare and Chris MacFarlene. Derek Martin walked to load the bases. Jeff would K two more batters but not before Neil Cooke was walked putting the score to 4-1.

I4C tied the game in the 5th with a 2 RBI single from Derek Martin followed by an overthrow on a steal to score the runner from 3rd.

The game went into the 7th inning tied 4-4. Matt McNish struck out the first two Rebel batters before giving up a single to Kevin Shonfield. Derek Barber reached base before some wild events. Shonfield looked dead to rights advancing to third, an over throw on a rundown lead to Shonfield reaching 3rd and Barber reaching 2nd. Derick Bulley was walked which loaded the bases. Jeff Barber delivered with the bases loaded, hitting a triple on a 0-2 count.

The score was 7-4 going into the bottom of the 7th. I4C looked like they may have something going with a 2 out walk but the game was finished when Ryan Mitts made a nice basket catch on a hard hit ball to left field.
