Last night's Greater Ottawa Fastball League playoff game in Micksburg had a great crowd out, despite the temperatures of about 2 degrees Celsius by the time we got to the seventh inning.
Excellent to see the interest in our game.

The Micksburg Twins defeated the Kars Aces 5-1 on Friday night in a chilly game in Micksburg to win the best-of-three Greater Ottawa Fastball League championship series two games to one.
The Twins have won every GOFL playoff championship that's been held since 2016 with the exception of 2018 (Quyon Flyers). Given in 2020 there was no season due to COVID, that's three in a row and five of the last six. The Twins also won their first title in 2013.
Despite the frosty temperatures, a good crowd was in attendance with approximately 125 fans on hand, including not just locals but many who made the trip from several kilometres away.
Joran Graham earned the win, allowing only two hits - the first two batters of the game - and striking out an incredible 20 batters. Brad Porter took the loss; he gave up nine hits and struck out eight, allowing three earned runs.
Kars got on the board first with Brad Pender leading off the game with a single and scoring on a Kristian Knapp double.
The Twins responded in the bottom of the first frame. Matt McIntyre walked with one out, Graham singled and Scott Conroy's RBI single scored McIntyre. An infield error then allowed Graham to score.
The Aces threatened in the top of the third when both Chad Milne and Pender reached base on defensive miscues. However, Graham got out of the jam with three straight Ks.
Micksburg got their next three runs in the fourth. John Enright dropped a bunt single and was moved to second on a Ryan McIntyre sacrifice bunt. Paul Griffith then doubled, his second hit of the game, to drive in Enright. After Quinton Rook reached on an infield error, Matt McIntyre doubled to score Griffith and Rook.
Graham retired the next nine batters in a row (a fly out and eight strike outs) to seal the championship win.

I haven't checked the analytics thingy for the Blog lately, but I did tonight.
Turns out this site has 16,719 page views since September 1st. There have been about 122,000 page views in the past year. Since I started this site there has been, as of this exact moment of writing, 1,294,309 page views. Remarkable.
I've been at this blogging thing a long time. So long in fact that the 6 year old Fitzroy Junior and the 4 year old Caveman described in this post from 2009 about their 5 pitch league now play in the GOFL with me.
It's a fair bit of work, and my revenue level is low (as in $0), but it's gratifying that people actually still read the Blog. I appreciate the information, stories and photos sent my way and the people that take time to tell me they read it when they see me at the diamond or elsewhere.
If you have a favourite post from the past, let me know in the comments.
Thanks for reading.

The Micksburg Twins evened the best-of-three Greater Ottawa Fastball League series in Manotick on Thursday night at a game apiece with a 11-0 win over the Kars Aces on a beautiful October night in front of about 50 fans, several of whom made the trip from the Upper Ottawa Valley.
After losing at home 9-1 last week, the Twins put up a big win setting up a decisive game three for the I4C Consulting Cup on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Micksburg.
So far this year's series is in stark contrast to the 2019 GOFL final which saw Micksburg defeat Kars two games to one in which every game in the series finished with a score 1-0.
Joran Graham earned the win tonight, allowing only two hits and striking out 17. Brad Porter took the loss for the Aces.
Micksburg scored three in the second inning. Joe Mick hit a solo homer to right-centre field, followed later in the inning by a two RBI double by Matt McIntyre scoring Paul Griffith and Quinton Rook who had both singled.
The Twins got another run in the fourth on an RBI infield single by Ryan McIntyre, driving in Jared Steege who had singled and move to third on a Mick single.
The visitors put together a seven-run inning in the top of the final frame to seal the victory. Griffith singled down the right field line (his second hit of the night) to lead off the inning and Nolan Rook went in to pinch run. That was followed by a Quinton Rook infield single. Matt McIntyre singled to left field for his third RBI of the night, followed by a Graham single to left. After a pop up, Steege singled to right field for an RBI. When Mick walked, the bases were loaded. John Enright then mashed a grand slam homer to right field to put the Twins up 11-0.
Graham struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to close the game.
A good crowd is anticipated Friday night in the 'Burg for the final fastball game of the season in Eastern Ontario to decide the GOFL champions for 2022.

Joe Mick, of the Greater Ottawa Fastball League's Mickburg Twins, was named Most Valuable Player of his U20 team, the Napanee Express.
The coaching staff of the Express, a team which finished second at the U20 Canadians this year, noted the following:
This years AFW u20 Midget Express has had the honour of having this young athlete join us in 2021. He is one of many hard working athletes that we have had the privilege to coach this year!
This young man is one of the best! He works hard and pushes all his team mates to do the same. When he’s not playing, he is the loudest most influential players we have on the bench. His role as a team mate is second to none. What he showed our community this year was inspiring and unbelievable. This player is the true definition of a team player on and off the field.
He takes the time to chat with every young player that has questions for him. Even spends some time still in his gear to catch, a few up and coming pitchers.
Joe Mick (Jean Jacket Joe) is our MVP this year. Hard work pays off Joe! Joe ages out this year and will be truly missed!
