This old site......

Actual conversation this morning.

Mrs. Fastball: "What are you doing?"

Me: "Oh, just updating the blog."

Mrs. Fastball: "Oh really? You still update that old site?"

2024 season now in the books - thanks for reading!

With Harbour Ball finishing up last night on a brisk 3°C evening in Fitzroy, so ends the local men's fastpitch softball season.

Thanks to all the readers who make it worth my while to keep this thing updated regularly. Based on a quick "stats" report that I just ran, this site had approximately 83,500 page views in the last six months alone, and an incredible 1.5 million plus since I launched this blog. I spend a fair bit of time on this site, so it is nice to have validation of it being actually read.

Keep coming back in the off season too; I will post news as I receive it. If you have news to share, send me an email at the address in the header above.

Thanks for reading

I haven't checked the analytics thingy for the Blog lately, but I did tonight.

Turns out this site has 16,719 page views since September 1st. There have been about 122,000 page views in the past year. Since I started this site there has been, as of this exact moment of writing, 1,294,309 page views. Remarkable.

I've been at this blogging thing a long time. So long in fact that the 6 year old Fitzroy Junior and the 4 year old Caveman described in this post from 2009 about their 5 pitch league now play in the GOFL with me.

It's a fair bit of work, and my revenue level is low (as in $0), but it's gratifying that people actually still read the Blog. I appreciate the information, stories and photos sent my way and the people that take time to tell me they read it when they see me at the diamond or elsewhere.

If you have a favourite post from the past, let me know in the comments.

Thanks for reading.

Baird Carpentry wins game one of Harbour Ball final

Baird Carpentry won game one of the Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball League final best of three series with a 3-1 victory over Bren Electric on Wednesday night. It was a pitchers' duel that only took an hour and twenty four minutes.

Bren scored one in the bottom of the first but that was it for them. Baird scored three runs in the top of the third and that was enough for the win. Baird captain and second baseman John Sullivan made a diving stab on a ground ball up the middle which saved a run in the bottom of the third.

Rory Burns started for the Carpenters while Ryland Hill closed the door with four shutout innings.  Adam Rueckwald and Mitch Taylor threw for the Electricians.

Game 2 will be scheduled next week, date to be confirmed.

Royals advance to Shawville final

The Royals advanced to the Shawville Men's Fastpitch League final with a 9-1 win on Sunday afternoon in what could be described as "challenging" weather and field conditions.

Gregg Garrity was the winning pitcher. Matt Greer took the loss.

Garrity had a homer for the Royals as did Greg Hayes and Darron Barr.

The Royals will now face the Bucks in the SMFL final, on a date and time to be confirmed.

The challenging field conditions.
