Jr Batmen win U23 provincials

The Rostock Toronto Junior Batmen won the six-team Ontario Amateur Softball Association Men's U23 Elimination tournament in Wingham on Saturday, finishing with a perfect four win record.

The Batmen defeated Tavistock Merchants 3-0 in the final, handing the defending champions their only loss of the event.  Brad Barker, the tournament Most Valuable Player, earned the shutout win, tossing a two-hitter. Reese Yantzi took the loss and had relief from Will Schlotzhauer.  Tyler Branchaud of the Greater Ottawa Fastball League's Manotick Brewers is a member of the gold medal winning team, while the Brewers' Jack Becker plays for Tavistock. 

West Carleton Electric entered the U23 level for the first time and went winless in three, losing to the Batmen, New Hamburg Mustangs (bronze medalists) and finishing with a narrow 5-4 quarter-final loss to Shallow Lake. In that game, Noah Fleurie (Micksburg Twins) threw very well despite taking the loss. Cole Hodges (Manotick Brewers) was 2-4 with 3 RBI, and Dylan Rorwick (West Carleton Electric GOFL) had an RBI. Ryland Hill also threw for WC at the event. Other WC U23 players were Gabe Brown, Owen Brown, Conner Hopper, Sam Hopper, Joe Mick, Hudson Collins, and Aiden Reddick.

The other U23 team at the event was from Fingal.

There was also a masters 40+ event in Wingham with four teams playing a round robin. Cobourg, Waterdown, Shakespeare all finished with two wins and a loss, while Huron County went winless.

Kars beats WC

Kars Aces defeated West Carleton Electric 7-5 in the Greater Ottawa Fastball League game in Carp on Thursday. 

Andy Barber had the complete game win, while Ben Broek took the loss with relief from Adam Rueckwald. 

The Aces got out to a 7-3 lead after two innings and held on for the win.

Conner Hopper hit a homer for WC.

Micksburg shuts out Quyon

The Micksburg shut out the Quyon Flyers 7-0 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play in Micksburg on Thursday night.

Joran Graham was the winning pitcher with a one hitter. Matt Greer took the loss and had relief from Drew Hathway. 

Matt McIntyre hit a homer for the Twins. Hunter Beauregard had the only hit for Quyon.

International softball in Fitzroy Harbour on Canada Day

Fitzroy Harbour will be the site for an international softball match up on Canada Day.

Team Czechia U16 is touring Quebec and Ontario this summer. One of their stops will be in Fitzroy on July 1 to play a doubleheader against West Carleton Electric U20, with games at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

There will be refreshments available for thirsty spectators in attendance.

Micksburg beats Manotick

The Micksburg Twins beat the Manotick Brewers 7-1 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play in Manotick on Wednesday night.

Noah Fleurie earned the win with four innings of work and gave up the run. Joran Graham threw three in relief for the Twins. Carley Shane took the loss giving up three runs with Luc D'Entremont seeing action in relief allowing four runs.

Jason McIntyre hit a 2-run homer for Micksburg. His brother Andy McIntyre and cousin Matt McIntyre each had an RBI for the Twins. Graham was 2-3 with 2 RBI.

For Manotick, Ryan Clare was 3-3, with two doubles and an RBI. Also for the Brewers,  Ty Branchaud was 2-4, with a double and Riley Dunbar was 1-3.

Wednesday night now a single

Wednesday night in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play will be a single game in Manotick this week. Micksburg Twins will play the Manotick Brewers at 7:30 p.m.

The Twins - Los Caballos game will be postponed until another night.

Los Caballos win in Fitzroy

Los Caballos are the Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball tournament A champions, winning Sunday afternoon by a score of 5-1 over Harbour Ball league team Bren Electric. 

The game was tied 1-1 until the bottom of the sixth when the Los Caballos put up four runs. Matt McKay got the win in relief of Will Lowe. Gabe Brown took the loss in relief of Noah Fleurie.

Bren had defeated Hicks Custom Interiors in the semi-final while Los Caballos got by the Campbell Contracting Logsplitters. Both teams losing in the semis were FHMFL teams.

The B championship game featured Baird Carpentry (Harbour Ball league team) who slugged out a 15-8 win over the Amherstview Athletics U17 team. Jeff Campbell and Ethan Howard threw for Baird. Howard also hit a grand slam in this one.

B semis saw Conner Hopper hit a walk off homer for Baird to defeat Carlsbad while the Athletics got by the Wizards in the other game.

Other teams participating that didn't advance to Sunday include league teams Ottawa Valley Coffee, Clean Cut Construction, Grandor Farms plus Napanee Express U17. 

Harbour Ball commissioner Brendan Coker put on a great 12-team event and Fitzroy Harbour Community Association President Karen Taylor and her husband Simon put on a fantastic beer garden all weekend.

Harbour Ball Tournament playoff Sunday

There are eight teams left in the Fitzroy Harbour tournament on Sunday. 

On the B side, the 9 a.m. games are Baird Carpentry vs Carlsbad and Amherstview Athletics U17 vs The Wizards. 

The A playoff semi-finals will see Bren Electric play Hicks Interiors and Los Caballos vs Campbell Contracting at 11 a.m.

Harbour Ball tournament starts off with close games

The Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball League started off with five close games on Friday night.

Bren Electric and Baird Carpentry tied 11-11.

Hicks Custom Interiors got by Grandor Farms 5-2.

Campbell Fuels Logsplitters squeaked by Amherstview Athletics 3-2 on a bottom of the seventh walk off.

Ottawa Valley Coffee defeated The Wizards by a run.

The last game of the night saw Los Caballos walk off the game versus Clean Cut Construction in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-4 victory. 

Micksburg beats Manotick 3-1 (details added)

The Micksburg Twins beat the Manotick Brewers 3-1 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play in Micksburg on Friday night.

Joran Graham had the pitching win for the Twins. Luc D'Entremont threw for the Brewers. 

The game was tied 0-0 after four until Manotick got a run in the fifth. 

Micksburg responded with two as John Enright reached on a bunt single and Noah Fleurie hit a two run shot in a pinch hit appearance. 

The Twins added a run in the sixth after Andy McIntyre singled and scored on a Matt McIntyre doubled.

WC vs Quyon postponed

The Greater Ottawa Fastball League game between West Carleton and Quyon scheduled for tonight in Shawville has been postponed due to wet field conditions and an iffy forecast. Make up date to be announced. 

Kars and Los Caballos tie

The Kars Aces and Los Caballos tied 3-3 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play Wednesday night in Manotick. 

Will Lowe pitched for Los Caballos while Brad Porter and Andy Barber threw for the Aces.

Manotick outhits WC U20

The Manotick Brewers defeated West Carleton Electric U20 on Tuesday night in Fitzroy Harbour by a score of 16-8.

Carley Shane started for Manotick and earned the win. Adam Roth and Tyler Branchaud both threw an inning of relief.

Gabe Brown had the start and went two innings. Ethan Howard took the loss in relief.

Roth (2), Branchaud, Ty Alexander and Ryan Clare hit homers for the Brewers. Shane was 2 for 2 with two walks and scored four runs.

Dawson Pennock was 2 for 2, with two walks, a triple and a homer and three runs scored for WC. Colton Lecuyer was 2 for 3 with a walk and a triple, scoring three runs for the U20s.

The Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball League annual tournament will be held June 20 - 22 at the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre diamonds. There are now 12 teams participating as per below, including Carlsbad the returning champions.  (Note: late addition means there are now 12 teams.)

"Harbour Ball" as it is known locally, does not allow composite bats in league or tournament play.

REMINDER: Canadian Women's National Team to play in Carp - June 21

The Carp Fastball Committee in conjunction with Softball Canada is pleased to announce another exciting event at the Carp Fairgrounds softball diamonds.

On Saturday June 21 at 4:30 p.m., the Canadian Women's National Team will be play an intrasquad "Red vs White" softball game in Carp. Admission is free. Food and drinks will be available to purchase.

The athletes will be available post-game for a meet and greet and to sign autographs for interested fans.

ISC Qualifier wraps up in Mitchell

A successful International Softball Congress Qualifier event wrapped up in Mitchell on Sunday after a weekend of great weather and excellent ball.

In the top tier White division, the Bear Creek Express defeated the Gremlins 3-0 to win the title in this six team event.

In the second tier Red division, there were eight teams, and the U23 Toronto Junior Batmen were the champions, defeating Georgian Bay Giants 7-6 in the final. Tyler Branchaud of the Greater Ottawa Fastball League's Manotick Brewers plays for the U23 Batmen.

Kingston Axemen played in the Red division and finished with three wins and two losses. They beat Sebringville Sting 6-5 this morning then were eliminated with a 8-1 loss to the U23 Batmen. Nick Ellis and Kristian Knapp of the GOFL's Kars Aces played for Kingston. 

Team Ontario U20 played in the Red division and finished with a respectable 2-3 record. Conner Hopper of West Carleton Electric is on Team O.

The Legends 50+ division had four teams and Bear Creek Legends defeated defending ISC championship Cobourg Force in the final. Waterdown Hammer Legends, who lost to Cobourg 7-0 in the semi-final, had Brad Porter of Kars and Adam Brown of West Carleton Electric on their roster. Orleans Lacroix Sports, comprised of many Ottawa area players, also played in the Legends division and went 0-4.

Micksburg to play in Men’s Canadian Championship

The Micksburg Twins, who played in the Ontario Amateur Softball Association qualifier in late May, have been offered a berth at the Men's Canadian Championship Aug 27-31 in Kitchener.

The event will feature ten teams from five provinces: Ontario (5), British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador (2) vying for the National Championship. 

While individual players from the Greater Ottawa Fastball League have played in the Men's Canadians in the past, this will be the first time a GOFL team will be represented. 

Saturday at the ISC Qualifier

It was another great day for ball at the International Softball Congress qualifier tournament in Mitchell, ON on Saturday. 

The Kingston Axemen won one and lost one to finish round robin play at 2-1. They defeated Team Ontario 2-0, with David Watson picking up the win. Kristian Knapp of the Kars Aces had a triple and an RBI. Later in the day they lost 12-5 to the Georgian Bay Giants. Knapp had 2 RBIs in that one. The Axemen play the Sebringville Sting on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. as bracket play begins.

Team Ontario U20 won their first game on Saturday, defeating the Walton Brewers 11-1. Conner Hopper of West Carleton Electric was 2 for 2 with two doubles. Team O play the Waterdown Hammer at 8:30 a.m. in Sunday bracket play.

The Orleans Legends lost both their games on Saturday and will play at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday in the 50+ final versus Bear Creek.

Waterdown Hammer Legends lost to ISC defending champions Cobourg Force 8-1, then were defeated 4-3 in eight innings by Bear Creek. Brad Porter threw very well for the Hammer despite taking the loss in a complete game effort. The Hammer Legends play the Force in a semi-final at 10:30 a.m.

ISC Qualifier in Mitchell

The International Softball Congress Qualifier tournament in Mitchell got underway last night. There are six ISC teams in the top tier men's division, six lower ranked ISC teams plus a U23 team and U20 Team Ontario in another division and a four team 50+ Legends division. 

The Kingston Axemen won their game against the Walton Brewers 4-1, with Jordan Macdonald getting the win and David Watson the save. Kristian Knapp of the GOFL's Kars Aces hit a 300 foot plus two run homer for the Axemen.

Team Ontario, which includes West Carleton Electric's Conner Hopper, lost narrowly to the Georgian Bay Giants 8-7.

In the 50+ division, Brad Porter, also of the Kars Aces, picked up his first ever pitching win at this level in a 14-2 win for Waterdown Hammer Legends over the Orleans Lacroix Sports Legends. Some old guy that runs a blog was 2 for 2 in the same game for Waterdown. 

Quyon and Micksburg win on Thursday

There were two games in the Greater Ottawa Fastball League on Thursday night and both ended 8-1.

Quyon Flyers 8 Manotick Brewers 1

Quyon defeated Manotick 8-1 in Shawville. The game was 2-1 until the sixth inning when the Flyers put up a six spot to end the game on the run rule. Matt Greer earned the win in the circle for the home team. Adam Roth took the loss and had relief from Carter Marshall. Greer and Hunter Beauregard hit solo homers for Quyon.

Micksburg Twins 8 West Carleton Electric 1

Micksburg got by West Carleton 8-1 in five innings in the 'Burg. Joran Graham was the winning pitcher and had an inning of relief from John Enright. Adam Rueckwald took the loss. Scott Conroy hit a three-run homer in the first inning for the Twins. Andrew McIntyre and Graham had solo homers for the home club. Rueckwald drove in the Electric's only run, cashing Dylan Rorwick who had singled.

Week three in the Micksburg league

In week three of the Micksburg Men's Fastball League:

Early game - Gold Gloves defeated the Seniors 6-5. Joran Graham had the pitching win while John Enright took the loss.

Late game - The Northstars defeated the Brewers 7-4. Drew Hathway had the win while Ryland Hill came in and got a hold in relief. Brendan Hennessy took the loss. Jason McIntyre continued with his hot bat after a good showing at the Glen tournament and hit another homer.

Kars wins third in a row

After starting out the season with two losses, the Kars Aces won their third in a row in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play on Wednesday night at the late game in Manotick, defeating Los Caballos 10-0.

Andy Barber picked up the win, allowing only one hit over four innings of work. Matt McKay took the loss and had relief from Will Lowe.

Kristian Knapp had 4 RBIs for the Aces.

Manotick wins over Los Caballos

Manotick Brewers won 4-0 over Los Caballos in the early game in Manotick in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play on Wednesday night.

Luc D'Entremont earned the pitching win for the Brewers, striking out 11, walking one and allowing one hit. Will Lowe took the loss for Los Caballos.

At the plate for the Brewers, James Martel was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, Tyler Branchaud was 2 for 3 with a run scored and Jack Becker was 1 for 3 with an RBI and run scored.

The Ontario Amateur Softball Association has announced schedules for various boys' and men's levels. 

U15 - Eliminations in Napanee - July 4-6

There are 14 teams entered in this event which will determine which teams will go to the Canadian Championship in Winkler, Manitoba. Napanee is hosting and other teams from the eastern part of the province include Peterborough, Springbrook and Campbellford. Schedule: OASA U15 Elimination Napanee 2025.

U17 - Eliminations in Elmira - June 27-29

U20 - Eliminations in Chepstow - July 4-6

There are 10 teams entered in this tournament to determine the representatives at the Canadian Championship in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Chatsworth are the host team. The 2025 International Softball Congress Canada East Qualifier June 13-15 in Mitchell, Ontario schedule has been released. There are three divisions - two men's and a Legends (50+) group.

The Kingston Axemen are entered in the "Red" division. A new Legends teams from Orleans, with several former Blackburn Men's Fastball League players, has entered as well.

North Leeds league

The North Leeds Men's Fastball League is back for another season. According to their website, there are seven teams this season, playing on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Teams are Westport, North Augusta, Lyn, Maitland, Eastons Corners, Spencerville and Greenbush. For more info visit their website.

Québec wins East Coast Showdown

Team Québec U20 Canada Games team won the East Coast Showdown in Fredericton, New Brunswick this weekend.

The five team event also had Canada Games teams from Nova Scotia (finalists), New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador, plus club team Taymouth Tigers.

Cade Kuehl and Hunter Beauregard, both of the Greater Ottawa Fastball League's Quyon Flyers, are members of Team Québec.

Kool Vent Heat wins Glen Cairn tournament (with more details)

Micksburg Kool Vent Heat won the twelve team Glen Cairn Men's Fastball League tournament this past weekend in Carp, defeating Fitzroy Team Red in the A final game 15-6. 

Micksburg were playoff champions in the Glen Cairn league in 2024, but left as the Micksburg Men's Fastball League re-formed this spring. 

Fitzroy Team Red, with players from the Fitzroy and Carp leagues, were tournament runners-up last year as well.

Noah Fleurie had the pitching win and hit a homer for Kool Vent. Adam Rueckwald, who threw every inning of five games for Team Red took the loss and also hit a homer. Andy McIntyre had two homers and Jared Steege hit a bomb for Micksburg.

Kool Vent lost their only game on the weekend to KMS Plumbing and Heating but got revenge by beating KMS in the semi-final.  Team Red defeated West Carleton Electric U20 7-5 in their semi-final.

On the B side, it was a battle of two Glen league teams as Corfix beat D. King Drywall Storm 6-1. Kevin Daize started for Corfix and had relief from Nolan Fife. Matt McKay threw for the Storm.

Corfix beat Southeastern Ontario Screaming Eagles U20 in the B semis while the Storm beat Sting Electric. 

The weather was beautiful all weekend and the Glen executive put on another great event.

The Kars Aces defeated the Quyon Flyers 5-1 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play on Thursday night in Shawville. 

Brad Porter got the win, throwing five innings for the Aces and Andy Barber threw two in relief. Drew Hathway went the distance for Quyon.

Jeff Barber and Brad Pender hit solo homers for Kars. Steve McCord had the lone RBI for Quyon.

Manotick Brewers defeated Los Caballos 4-0 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play on Wednesday in Manotick

Luc D'Entremont started for Manotick and threw four innings (3H, 5K). Carley Shane pitched in relief for three innings (2H, 4K).

Will Lowe took the loss, allowing five hits and striking out nine over six innings.

Jack Becker was 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Brewers, and Ty Alexander (RBI), Cole Hodges, and James Martell also had hits for Manotick.

Wilmer Lovera, Johan Torres, Pedro Lopez and Luis Anguas had hits for Los Caballos.

Micksburg league results

The Brewers defeated the Seniors 7-3 in the early game Tuesday. Brendon Hennessy had the win with Noah Flaurie (H) in relief. John Enright took the loss with a 0.2 IP, no earned runs for Joe Mick in the 7th. Mike Moss had a home run.

The Gold Gloves defeated the Northstars 6-1. Ryan Clark had the win. Ryland Hill took the loss with Drew Hathaway one inning in relief. 

Darren Zack receives honour

Darren Zack, one of the best pitchers men's fastpitch softball has ever seen, is being awarded the Order of Sport, Canada's highest sporting honour with induction into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame.

Schedule change for tonight

There is a scheduling change tonight in the Greater Ottawa Fastball League. Instead of a doubleheader in Manotick at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., there will instead be one game at 8 p.m. with the Manotick Brewers playing Los Caballos.

U20s win the battle of WC

West Carleton Electric GOFL team played West Carleton Electric U20 in a Greater Ottawa Fastball League exhibition game on Tuesday night in Fitzroy Harbour, with the youngsters prevailing 9-5.

Seeing as many U20 players also compete on the GOFL team, some "alumni" players came out for the night.

Kaden Fowler earned the win for the U20s, with Gabe Brown pitching in relief. Ben Broek started for the GOFL team and he was relieved by Adam Rueckwald. 

Dylan Rorwick hit two homers for the GOFL side.

North Augusta diamond issue

This is a message that went out parents of minor softball players in North Augusta

We want to inform you of a situation currently unfolding regarding the main North Augusta ball diamond. In March, a light pole failed, prompting an inspection of the others. As of 5:30 PM Friday, the Township deemed some standards unsafe and ordered the immediate removal of all, impacting all minor ball games held under the lights.

This diamond is the heart of our community. While we fully support player safety, we cannot accept this decision without transparency regarding the testing or a timely plan—especially with no resolution expected until 2026. We strongly feel there is another solution that can keep players safe and allow us to continue on with our season.

We are encouraging everyone to reach out to council to let them know just how important ball is to our community. Below, you’ll find contact information for all council members involved, as well as a pre-written email from a community member you may use or personalize.

Let’s stand together to protect minor ball for all of the youth in our community.

Batmen win gold, Micksburg 4th at Ontario Men's

The Toronto Batmen won the five-team Ontario Amateur Softball Association Men's Elimination tournament in Melbourne on Sunday, defeating the host Bear Creek Express 5-1 in the gold medal game. Tyler Randerson earned the win and Ty Sebastian took the loss. Jeff Lyons of Bear Creek was named MVP.

The bronze medal game saw Waterdown Hammer beat the Micksburg Twins 5-2. Reese Yantzi got the win. Joran Graham took the loss in relief of Wade Kewageshig.

Micksburg had beaten Kitchener Hallman Cubs 6-5 in nine innings in the 4th vs 5th game early on Sunday.  Kewageshig had the win in relief of Graham, while Don Scott took the loss in relief of Will Schlotzhauer. Dave Pratt has the game winning RBI, a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 9th.

In addition to Team Canada pitchers Randerson and Sebastian, other pitchers there not mentioned above included Kirk Santala and Riley Manion (Bear Creek), Dustin Veenhof (Toronto), Nate Running and Mac Fischer (Waterdown), Tye Boyd and Drew Hathway (Micksburg), Kyle Linton and Liam Laforest (Kitchener).

The Cubs are the host for the Softball Canada Men's Canadian Championship in late August at Peter Hallman Ballyard. The other teams to particpate at that event should be confirmed in early June.
