GOFL doubleheader tonight in Shawville

While a lot of attention this week is focused on the U20 Men's Canadian Championship in Carp, there is other men's fastball still being played.

Tonight in Shawville, the Pontiac Flyers will host Los Caballos in a Greater Ottawa Fastball League doubleheader which could have significant effects on the league's final standings. Game times are at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

The Flyers will be down a few players as Cade Kuehl and Hunter Beauregard are playing with Equipe Quebec at the U20s and Ethan Howard is with West Carleton Electric. Dan Read who is on Los Caballos roster is also at the U20s with the 'Trics.

Micksburg Fastball League Delivers Exciting Weekend of Championship Action - now with photos

The Micksburg Fastball League wrapped up an exciting weekend of playoff action, featuring competitive games, extra-inning drama, and outstanding performances on the diamond.

The day opened with a thrilling contest between the Gold Gloves and the Northstars. Fans were treated to an eight-inning battle that came right down to the wire, with the Gold Gloves emerging victorious by a score of 9-8. Joran Graham earned the win on the mound, while Joe Mick was tagged with the loss in the hard-fought matchup.

In the second game, the top-seeded Brewers squared off against the Gold Gloves. The Brewers showcased why they earned the number one seed, holding off a determined Gold Gloves squad to secure a 4-3 victory. Brendon Hennessy picked up the win, while Ryan Clarke took the loss.

Game three featured a showdown between the second-seeded Eagles and the third-seeded Seniors. The Eagles put together a strong all-around performance and advanced with a convincing 7-2 win. Drew Hathaway earned the victory, while John Enright was credited with the loss.

Unfortunately, following the third game, Mother Nature had other plans. Inclement weather forced organizers to halt the remainder of the day's festivities, and the decision was made to postpone the championship final until Monday, August 3.

Despite the weather interruption, the weekend showcased the skill, determination, and competitive spirit that make the Micksburg Fastball League a highlight of the summer season, Giving Fans a game look forward to an exciting conclusion when the championship game that took place on Monday.

Eagles Capture Micksburg Fastball League Championship

The No. 1 seed Brewers and No. 2 seed Eagles squared off on Monday afternoon in Micksburg, with a large crowd on hand to watch the Micksburg Fastball League Championship Final.

The Eagles struck first in the top of the second inning when Liam McHale launched a solo home run to give his team an early 1-0 lead.

The Eagles added to their advantage in the third inning. Danny McGrath led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Following a hit-by-pitch to Jeff Cull, the Eagles' offense continued to roll. RBI singles from Matt McIntyre and Joel Corbin, along with a sacrifice fly from Drew Hathaway, extended the Eagles' lead to 4-0.

The Eagles put the game out of reach in the fifth inning. Andy McIntyre reached base on an infield single and later scored following a throwing error on an attempted play at second base, making it 5-0. After Matt McIntyre was hit by a pitch, Drew Hathaway drove in another run with an RBI double. Hathaway would later cross the plate on a throwing error following a dropped third strike, pushing the Eagles' lead to 7-0.

On the mound, Drew Hathaway was dominant, shutting down the Brewers' offense and securing the victory. With the win, the Eagles claimed the 2026 Micksburg Fastball League Championship, capping off an impressive playoff run and a memorable season.

The championship game provided a fitting conclusion to another outstanding season of Micksburg Fastball, with players, volunteers, and fans coming together to celebrate the community's passion for the sport. 🏆🥎

Two important wins for WC Electric over Ontario teams on Wednesday pushed the host team to a 3-1 record and put them in second place at the eight team event. 

The afternoon game for the 'Trics saw them defeat the top ON seed Plattsville Lightning 7-3. A big five run inning in the third helped WC stake a big lead that they didn't give up. Colton Lecuyer hit a homer for the home side and Nolan O'Brien a three RBI double. Carter Marshall got the complete game pitching win. Brett McCutcheon had the start for the Lightning and had relief from Jared Vosper. 

The night cap, again in front of a sizeable crowd, saw WC get by ON2 St. George Aces in a 3-2 squeaker. Kaden Fowler had the win, going the distance. Bryce Rebertz had a homer and a triple for West Carleton and also scored the game winning run, driven in by Ethan Howard who was two for three on the night. Ethan de Belleval, Cody Rahn and Nate Wylie pitched for St. George.

Games for the host team on Thursday are 3:30 p.m. vs Valley Vikings from Saskatchewan and 8 p.m. against the Chatsworth Longhorns.

Day One at U20 Canadians - West Carleton wins one, loses one

Results from Day One at the Softball Canada U20 Men's Canadian Championship event being held August 4-9 at the Carp Fairgrounds. Full info is available at U20 Men's and on GameChanger.

The first game yesterday for West Carleton Electric at the U20 Canadian Championship was an exciting 5-4 victory over Newfoundland. A walk off homer in the bottom of the seventh by tournament pick up from Elmira Expos, Nolan O'Brien, sealed the victory. Kaden Fowler had the pitching win in relief of Thomas McLean. Zack Barker took the loss for NL in relief of Noah Stokes. An excellent article with full details of the win is available on West Carleton Online. (You will need a subscription. The second game didn't go so well with West Carleton falling 15-1 to Équipe Québec after giving up twelve runs in the first inning. Carter Marshall took the loss and had relief from Dan Read. Mark Tomatuk earned the win.

Next up for West Carleton on Day Two are games against two Ontario teams: 3:30 p.m. vs Plattsville Lightning and 8 p.m. vs St. George Aces.

U20 Men's Canadian Championship starts Tuesday

The Softball Canada U20 Men's Canadian Championship gets started Tuesday in Carp, with eight teams from five provinces. 

Games begin at 10 a.m., with the host West Carleton Electric playing at 2:30 p.m. vs Valley Vikings from Saskatchewan and 8:15 p.m. vs Équipe Québec. 

West Carleton features several Greater Ottawa Fastball League players: Finn Barton, Bryce Rebertz and Colton Lecuyer of West Carleton Electric Men's, Dawson Pennock and Jason McIntyre of Micksburg Twins, Carter and Jackson Marshall of Manotick Brewers and Ethan Howard of Pontiac Flyers. Daniel Read who has played with Los Caballos is an addition to the team for Canadians. Other team members are Jack Barton who plays for Ottawa Valley Coffee in the Fitzroy league, Kaden Fowler who plays for Kingston Axemen, Carter Wright from Marmora, and Thomas McLean from the Greenbush Generals of the North Leeds league.  

Équipe Québec roster includes two local players - Cade Kuehl and Hunter Beauregard of the Pontiac Flyers.

Colombo at 25th Central American and Caribbean Games

Luis Colombo of Los Caballos in the Greater Ottawa Fastball League is pitching for Venezuela at the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, D.R.

Colombo earned a 2-1 win over Dominican Republic on Monday night, throwing a complete game three hitter.

The current standings for the Greater Ottawa Fastball League are as follows:

1. Vars Aces 7W 2L 2T = 16 pts - one game remaining vs Micksburg Twins

2. Los Caballos 5W 2L 3T = 13 pts - two games remaining vs Pontiac Flyers

3. Manotick Brewers 5W 5L 2T = 12 pts - season complete

4. Micksburg Twins 4W 5L 2T = 10 pts - one game remaining vs Vars Aces

5. Pontiac Flyers 4W 5L 1T = 9 pts - two games remaining vs Los Caballos

6. West Carleton Electric 3W 9L = 6 pts - season complete

The playoff format is:
1st and 2nd get a bye
Quarter finals are 3rd vs 6th and 4th vs 5th (best of three)
Semi-finals best of three
Finals best of three

Here is what we know right now:

- Vars will get a bye no matter what finishing either 1st or 2nd

- Los Caballos will be either 1st, 2nd or 3rd

- Manotick will either be 3rd or 4th

- Micksburg will either be 4th or 5th (Manotick has tiebreaker on Micksburg based on season series)

- Pontiac could finish 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th 

- West Carleton gets 6th

Los Caballos and Pontiac are playing a make-up doubleheader on August 6th at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. in Shawville. Vars and Micksburg have a make-up game to be scheduled.

Aces win Friday in Shawville

The Vars Aces defeated the Pontiac Flyers 5-2 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League action on Friday night in Shawville. 

Andy Barber earned the win and hit two solo home runs for the Aces. Matt Greer took the loss and had relief from Drew Hathway.
