Vars wins two on Wednesday night in Manotick

Results from the Greater Ottawa Fastball League doubleheader in Manotick on Wednesday night. 

The first game was a 6-1 victory for Vars Aces over Manotick Brewers. Andy Barber earned the win while Luc D'Entremont took the loss with relief from Austin Blanchard.

Jn the late game, Vars beat Manotick 8-1. Brad Porter was the winning pitcher while Thomas McLean, who pitches for West Carleton Electric U20, took the loss.

Kars Aces win silver at PWSA Intermediate Women’s provincials

The longstanding Kars Aces women’s team, led by Norm Adams, won silver at the PWSA Intermediate Women’s Provincials in Windsor this past weekend. 

In the 26 team tournament Kars finished 5th in their 13 team pool with 3 wins and 1 tie in pool play. On Sunday the team had 3 straight wins to make it to the finals including a huge comeback against the LaSalle Athletics. 

Kars eventually lost in the finals to the London Lightning to win silver. They earned a spot to represent Ontario at the Eastern Canadians in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia next month. Maysha Townsend (Brockville) pitched all 8 games and was awarded the Top Player award.

WC splits doubleheader

West Carleton Electric hosted Pontiac Flyers and Vars Aces on Tuesday night Greater Ottawa Fastball League play in Fitzroy Harbour.

The first game saw the Flyers score three in the top of the seventh to win 5-2. Drew Hathway earned the win while Adam Rueckwald took the loss. Conner Hopper scored both of WC's runs on solo homers. Hathway and Ethan Howard had RBIs and Matt Greer hit a two run homer for Pontiac.

In the late game West Carleton got out to a 7-0 lead on the Aces, then held on for a 10-8 win. Finn Barton started for WC and Rueckwald got the win in relief. Brad Porter started for Vars and Nick Ellis took the loss in relief. Bryce Rebertz had a two run homer for WC, while Hopper, Alex Strathern (2), Trevor Barton, Gabe Brown, Dylan Rorwick (2) and Rueckwald all had RBIs. The Aces runs were scored on a Brad Pender two run homer, a Kurtis Summers grand slam and a two RBI double by Will Dunk.

Micksburg to host a tournament

The Micksburg Men's Fastball League is hosting a recreational men's fastball tournament August 21-23 at the Micksburg diamond.

Teams will be guaranteed three games. Organizers are hoping for at least six teams.

West Carleton Electric win silver at U20 Provincials (details added)

West Carleton Electric won silver at the Ontario Amateur Softball Association U20 Provincials held in Sydenham on the weekend.

The Junior Trics took the long road to the final. After winning their first game, they lost their second on Saturday to the Chatsworth Longhorns.  Three straight wins on Sunday put them in the Final, against Chatsworth where they ran out of gas.

The first win of the event was an 8-2 victory over St. George on Saturday morning. Thomas McLean had the complete game win.

The first loss to Chatsworth was 12-9 on Saturday afternoon. WC got down early 11-1 with some uncharacteristic poor defensive play, but battled back to make it close. The Brothers Barton each had a home run with Jack hitting one inside the park and Finn a three run shot. Kaden Fowler took the loss and had relief from Carter Marshall. 

With heavy rains starting after the second game, the remaining matches were pushed to Sunday. 

West Carleton started off with a 12-1 win over Tavistock. McLean earned his second win of the weekend. Colton Lecuyer had a grand slam for WC.

Next up was an 8-7 come from behind win over St. George. WC was down 6-1 at one point but scratched put the victory. Marshall took the with relief from Fowler.

Next up of the three games in a row was a matchup against Plattsville Lightning, a team which went undefeated at the Eliminations earlier in the month. West Carleton got the upset 6-5 win, again coming from behind. With the score 5-4 in the seventh, Finn Barton hit an in the park HR to tie it. Fowler walked, was moved to second and scored what proved to be the winning run on a single by Jason McIntyre. McLean picked up his third win of the weekend in relief of Fowler the starter.

That set up a rematch with Chatsworth, a team  on their second game of the day, while WC was playing four in a row. The Electric got out to an early lead but simply ran out of gas, falling to the Longhorns 12-4. McLean, Carter Wright, Ethan Howard and Finn Barton all pitched in this one.

West Carleton will now prepare for the U20 Men's Canadian Championship in Carp on August 4-9 where they will be the host team. They will be joined by Chatsworth, Plattsville and St. George from Ontario as well as teams from Quebec, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland & Labrador and Saskatchewan.

ISC World Tournament schedule released

The schedule for the International Softball Congress World Tournament and Legends tournament has been released.

There are 34 teams in the WT and 15 teams in the 50+ Legends event.

Los Caballos sweeps doubleheader vs Twins (updated)

Los Caballos swept a neutral site Greater Ottawa Fastball League doubleheader on Thursday night in Carp against the Micksburg Twins.

In the early game they beat the Twins 4-1 on the strength of three homers. Luis Colombo earned the win and Noah Fleurie the loss in relief of Joran Graham. Home runs for the Horses came from Fredyan Carpio, Antonio Torres and Ray Fortun.

The late game was tied 0-0 until Los Caballos broke it open in the bottom of the sixth scoring three to make it 3-0. Colombo earned another win and John Enright took the loss.

Flyers win 9-2 at home (updated with details)

The Pontiac Flyers won 9-2 over the Manotick Brewers in Greater Ottawa Fastball League action in Shawville on Thursday night.

Matt Greer had the pitching win for the home team while Riley Dunbar took the loss for the Brewers.

The Brewers started the scoring with two runs in the top of the third inning. Ty Alexander tripled to lead off. Tyler Branchaud walked, then stole second base. Dunbar's single cashed both.

In the bottom of the third, the Flyers responded. Ethan Howard, who was three for three on the night, singled as did Dennis McCleary. Evan Atkinson then hit a three-run homer.

Pontiac put up six more runs in the fifth inning. Steve McCord and Lane McMurtry each had two RBIs in the frame.

Brewers and Aces win on Wednesday

In the first Greater Ottawa Fastball League game on Wednesday night in Manotick, the Manotick Brewers defeated West Carleton Electric 2-1. Luc D'Entremont earned the win while Ryland Hill took the loss. Cole Hodges had two RBIs for the Brewers, including a homer.

The late game saw the Vars Aces get by the Electric 11-5. Andy Barber earned the victory. Hill started for WC but left in the third with an injury. Gabe Brown took the loss, and had relief from Finn Barton. 

Warren leads Oakville to provincial title

Kelsey Warren of Metcalfe won at the women’s open provincials with Oakville Angels U23 on the weekend. 

She pitched three of the six games and went 3-0 with 21K and only two earned runs in 18 innings. 

She pitched the undefeated game against the Aurora Diggers (4-2 win) to send the team to the championship game where they again defeated Aurora (6-1) to win gold. 

Oakville will be going to the Canadian Championship in Alberta next month as ON1.

Her dad, former GOFLer Darrell Warren is part of the coaching staff. Kelley is in the back row far left of the photo and her dad is beside her.

Kelley also plays softball at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania. 

Kingston finalists in Au Sable

The Sandlot from Pennsylvania won the eight team 64th Annual Au Sable Forks, NY men's fastpitch tournament over the weekend.

They defeated the Kingston Axemen in the final. 

Thursday game postponed

The Greater Ottawa Fastball League game scheduled for Thursday night in Fitzroy Harbour between Micksburg Twins and West Carleton Electric was postponed due to weather / field conditions. 

U15 house league season wraps up

The West Carleton U15 house league season wrapped up with Championship Wednesday in Kinburn last night.

The league had 10 teams this season - three from Kinburn, two from Fitzroy Harbour, two from McNab/Braeside and one each from Carp, Dunrobin and Stittsville. 

A Champs were Kinburn 3.

B Champs were Kinburn 2.

The early game was a 5-5 tie between Los Caballos and the Manotick Brewers. Luis Colombo threw for Los Caballos and hit a homer. Carter Marshall and Riley Dunbar for the Brewers. 

The late game was a 12-11 victory of the Vars Aces over the Pontiac Flyers. Brad Porter earned the win. Luke Young took the loss in relief of Todd Hearty. Hunter Beauregard had homer for the Flyers.

Colombo leads Los Caballos to 1-0 win

Luis Colombo led Los Caballos to a 1-0 win over West Carleton Electric on Tuesday night in Fitzroy Harbour, getting the pitching win (three hitter) and hitting a solo shot for the game's only run.

Adam Rueckwald threw very well for the Electric, allowing only four hits.

After Colombo's homer gave the visitors the 1-0 lead in the fourth, WC threatened in the fifth. After two strikeouts, Alex Strathern doubled. He went to third on a wild pitch.  Owen Brown walked, and Colton Lecuyer was intentionally walked to load the bases. Trevor Barton's hit what looked to be a sure infield hit, but an athletic play by Colombo had him field the ball and make the out at first.

The Au Sable Forks tournament features eight teams this year, including the Kingston Axemen.

Plattsville wins U20 elims

The Plattsville Lightning won the Ontario Amateur Softball Association U20 Men's Elimination tournament in Drumbo on the weekend, winning four straight games. Plattsville, which won the U20 Canadian Championship when it was hosted in Carp in 2024, qualified for this year's Canadians in Carp again.

They were led by the tournament's top pitcher Jared Vosper and MVP catcher Matthew Van de Wynckel. 

Plattsville defeated West Carleton 9-1, Tavistock 6-0, Chatsworth 11-3 and St. George 11-0 in the final.

St. George and Chatsworth also qualified for Canadians. Elmira finished fourth.

West Carleton Electric, the host team for Canadians finished fifth, defeating the Southeastern Ontario Screaming Eagles 7-1 in a Consolation Round game on Sunday. Thomas Maclean had the complete game win, while Kaden Thompson took the loss with relief from Dan Read and Hudson Compeau. Finn Barton hit a homer for the Electric. 

WC Electric win one, lose two at Elims

West Carleton Electric Men's U20 team won one game and lost two at the Ontario Amateur Softball Association Eliminations in Drumbo this past weekend.

The tournament determines the three teams from Ontario that will join WC as host at the 2026 U20 Men's Canadian Championship in Carp from August 4 to 9.

The Electric lost to the host Plattsville Lightning by a score of 9-1 in the opener on Friday night. Sean Demarest had the win while Kaden Fowler took the loss with relief from Carter Marshall.

In the next game WC defeated Southeastern Ontario Screaming Eagles 9-1. Marshall earned the win and Dan Read was tagged with the loss. Colton Lecuyer hit a home run for the Electric.

The third game was decided in eight innings as the St. George Aces got by West Carleton 8-7. The Aces got out to a 6-1 lead after the first inning, but the Electric battled back to tie things, only to lose in the bottom of the extra frame. Marshall took the loss in relief of Fowler. Nate Wylie had the win in relief of Easton de Belleval. Finn Barton had a homer for West Carleton 

The Electric will play a Consolation Round game on Sunday at 11 a.m. versus the Screaming Eagles. 

Plattsville (undefeated), Chatsworth, St. George and Elmira remain in contention for the title.

U20 Elims this weekend

The Ontario Amateur Softball Association Men's U20 Elimination tournament will be held this weekend in Drumbo.

There are seven teams participating, including West Carleton Electric, looking for a spot at the Softball Canada Canadian Championship in Carp, August 4 to 9.

WC has a bye to the Canadians, but will still be looking to finish at the top of the event to get top Ontario seed.

The Electric have eight players who are on four different Greater Ottawa Fastball teams. Three play for West Carleton Electric Men's (Bryce Rebertz, Colton Lecuyer, Finn Barton), two for Micksburg Twins (Dawson Pennock and Jason McIntyre), two for Manotick Brewers (Jackson and Carter Marshall) and one for Pontiac Flyers (Ethan Howard). Other members include Kaden Fowler who plays for Kingston Axemen, Jack Barton, Carter Wright and Thomas McLean.

Twins and Flyers tie at 4

The Thursday night Greater Ottawa Fastball League game in Micksburg saw the home town Twins tie the Pontiac Flyers 

John Enright and Noah Fleurie threw for the Twins. Drew Hathway had the ball for the Flyers. Joran Graham had a homer for Micksburg.
