GeeGees win four on the weekend

The uOttawa GeeGees women's university softball team played four home games in Fitzroy Harbour on the weekend, and swept both doubleheaders against the Waterloo Warriors and York Lions to move to six wins and two losses so far this season.

GOFL playoffs continue

The Greater Ottawa Fastball League playoffs continue this week with game two of each best-of-three semi-final scheduled as per below.

Tuesday September 22 at 8 p.m. in Micksburg

Vars Aces vs Micksburg Twins; Vars leads series 1-0.

Wednesday September 23 at 7 p.m. in Manotick 

Pontiac Flyers vs Los Caballos; Los Caballos lead series 1-0.

Lecuyer off on New Zealand adventure

Colton Lecuyer of Fitzroy Harbour had a very busy season of fastpitch softball. He played for West Carleton Electric at the U20 in OASA play and at Canadians, U23 at provincials, and Men's level in the Greater Ottawa Fastball League. He played for Ottawa Valley Coffee in the Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball League. He played ISC for the Kingston Axemen. He was picked up to play with the Toronto Junior Batmen at U23 and Men's Canadians. 

Yet, after all that, his 2026 softball adventure continues.

Now Colton, who turned 19 last week, has recently departed to go to New Zealand to play softball over the fall and winter for the East Coast Bays in Auckland.

Best wishes to Lec for a successful season on the other side of the globe. We will do our best to provide any updates as we receive them.

Blackburn playoff update

The Blackburn Men's Fastball League playoffs continued with two games on Thursday night.

#4 Solotech Elevations upset #1 Goodfellows 10-7 in nine innings to win game one of the best-of-three semi-final series, with game two scheduled for Tuesday September 22 at 9 p.m.

In the other semi-final, the #3 Blue Jays beat #2 Bandits by a score of 9-0 to win the series and advance to the finals.

Los Caballos win game one

Tuesday's Greater Ottawa Fastball League semi-final playoff game in Shawville between Los Caballos and the Pontiac Flyers ended with some uncertainty.

After an independent review considered the facts and reviewed the video of the final play, it was determined that the original "out" call on the last play of the game stands and the final score was Los Caballos 2 - Pontiac Flyers 1 in nine innings.

Los Caballos lead the best-of-three series one game to none. Game two will be played next week, date to be confirmed.

Semis set for the Glen

The semi-final match ups are set for the Glen Cairn Men's Fastball League with four games scheduled for next week.

Hicks advance to Harbour Ball finals

In Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball League action last night, Hicks Custom Interiors swept a playoff semi-final doubleheader over the Bren Electric Logsplitters to advance to the finals.

The first game was 6-2 and the late result was 14-6. Adam Rueckwald and John Sullivan pitched for HCI and Owen Brown and Gabe Brown threw for Bren, with Dylan Rorwick and Hayden Khan helping pitch the last inning of the last game.

The other semi-final was a single game only. Baird Carpentry won 4-0 over Gagnon Plumbing. Blake Bramburger pitched for Baird. Steve Cavanagh and Kevin Bisch pitched for the Plumbers. That series will resume next week.

Aces win game one over Twins

The Vars Aces won the opening game of their best-of-three Greater Ottawa Fastball League semi-final series by a score of 2-0 over the Micksburg Twins.

Andy Barber got the win, allowing only four hits. Joran Graham took the loss.

Kristian Knapp's two run homer in the first was the difference maker in this one. Nick Ellis was also 3 for 3 for the Aces.

Game two will be Tuesday night in Micksburg  at 8 p.m.

Lyn evens North Leeds final series

The North Leeds Men's Fastball League best-of-three final series was evened at one game apiece last night as Lyn defeated Maitland 6-4. Andrew Fortier earned the pitching win.

The deciding game three is scheduled for Tuesday September 22 at 8 p.m. in Maitland.

Blackburn playoff update, games on Thursday

The Blackburn Men's Fastball League playoffs continue with four teams remaining. 

In the 4th vs 5th series of the BMFL playoffs, Solotech Elevation defeated the Rogues 2 games to 1. 

In game 1, Elevation won 9 to 6. Nick Bowman had the win and Derick Bulley took the loss with relief from Matt Cox.

In game 2, the Rogues won 9 to 4. Matt Cox had the win and Nick Bowman took the loss. Marcel Mondoux hit a homerun for the Rogues.

In game 3, Elevation won 8 to 3. The game was tied 3 to 3 going into the bottom of the 6th. The bottom of the lineup got the bases loaded and Elevation were able to plate 5 runs in that inning thanks to a walk, triple and a fielder’s choice. Will Lowe had the win and Matt Cox the loss with relief from Derick Bulley. Elevation move on to face #1 Goodfellows in the semi-finals. 

In game 1 of the 2nd vs 3rd series, the Blue Jays won 12-1. Andy Barber picked up the win and Jeff Barber had a homerun. Max Lalonde had the loss with relief from Seb Rodrigue.

Game 1 of the semi-finals between Goodfellows and Elevation is scheduled for Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Game 2 between the Bandits and Blue Jays goes at 9:00 p.m.

Los Caballos vs Pontiac Flyers goes to nine innings

Game one of the Greater Ottawa Fastball League semi-finals between Los Caballos and the Pontiac Flyers went to nine innings on Tuesday night in Shawville and ended somewhat controversially.

Drew Hathway threw for the Flyers - he had 19Ks, allowing only two hits and one walk. Dan Read pitched for Los Caballos allowing only five hits, striking out seven, and walking six.

The teams were scoreless after eight innings.

In the top of the ninth, a misplayed fly ball hit by Felipe Morales allowed the international tie-breaker runner on second to score. That was followed by a Fredyan Carpio RBI single that scored Morales to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth, with two out, Dennis McCleary walked to put two men on. A single by Cade Kuehl scored Luke Young who was on base as per the tie-breaker rule. Todd Hearty then ground out to first base, which appeared to end the game with a 2-1 final. However, the Flyers appealed that the first baseman stepped on the orange bag instead of the white.  When the umpire agreed with the appeal and called Hearty safe - which would have scored the run to tie it - a spirited discussion ensued.

Game played halted at that time, and it will be up to the League and teams and umpires to determine what happens next.

Micksburg advances to semi-finals

The Micksburg Twins advanced to the Greater Ottawa Fastball League semi-finals with a 6-0 win on Tuesday night in Kars over the Manotick Brewers.

Joran Graham had the pitching win allowing four hits, one walk and one hit batter.

Luc D'Entremont took the loss, allowing four earned runs over five innings. Carter Marshall threw two innings of relief and allowed two unearned runs.

Graham and Dawson Pennock both had two run homers for the Twins.

Micksburg will advance to the best-of-three semi-finals against Vars Aces which start tomorrow (Wednesday September 16) at 8 p.m. in Manotick.

FHMFL semi-finals set - now with game times

The match ups for the best-of-three playoff semi-finals in the Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball League have been set following the Baird Carpentry win over Ottawa Valley Coffee Thursday night in their deciding game three. Blake Bramburger had the pitching win for Baird, while Bryan Armstrong and Colton Lecuyer threw for OVC.

Gagnon Plumbing, the first seed that received a bye to the semis, will face the Carpenters. They will play game one of their best-of-three on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Bren Electric Logsplitters will match up against Hicks Custom Interiors in the other series. Those two teams plan on getting two games in on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Ashton finals underway

The A and B playoff finals are underway in the Ashton Men's Fastball League.

The Ashton A's are up one nothing on the Ashton Farmers in the best-of-three A final and the Ashton Shockers are up one nothing on Whitewater Brewing in the B final.

Playoffs resume on Thursday September 17.

GOFL playoff update - UPDATED

The deciding Game 3 of the Micksburg Twins vs Manotick Brewers first round playoff series will be played Tuesday September 15 at 8 p.m. in Kars. (Manotick diamond is unavailable.)

The winner of that game will face the Vars Aces in the semi-final, with Game 1 scheduled for Wednesday September 16 in Manotick at 8 p.m. Should Tuesday get rained out, Wednesday night will become a 7 p.m. & 9 p.m. doubleheader.

Game 1 of the Los Caballos vs Pontiac Flyers series is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday September 15 in Shawville.

Maitland wins game one in North Leeds final

The Maitland Marlins won game one of the best-of-three North Leeds Men's Fastball League final playoff series with a 10-0 win in five innings over the Lyn Lightning.

Ty McNish got the win on the slab for Maitland.

Game two is Tuesday September 15 in Lyn at 8 p.m.

Glen playoffs get underway - updated

The six-team Glen Cairn Men's Fastball League has started playoffs this week with best-of-three opening round playoffs series.

Blackburn playoff update

The playoffs continue in the Blackburn Men's Fastball League.

In the #4 seed vs #5 seed best-of-three series, Solotech Elevations and Rogues are tied at one game apiece. The winner of that will advance to play #1 seed Goodfellows in the best-of-three semi-finals. 

The other semi-final has started with the Blue Jays up 1-0 over the Bandits.

Royals win Shawville final

The Royals won the Shawville Men's Fastpitch League playoff final and the John Atkinson Trophy on Thursday night with a 2-0 win over the Athletics. 

Adam Rueckwald, who was named playoff Most Valuable Player, was the winning pitcher allowing only one hit and striking out 17.

Matt Greer took the loss despite striking out 19.

Rueckwald and Jeff Tanguay had the RBIs for the Royals. Shawn Laframboise also had two hits and scored both runs. Cade Kuehl had the Athletics only hit.

Harbour Ball playoffs to resume

The Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball League playoffs were supposed to resume Wednesday but rain soaked the area.

Instead, deciding game three of Ottawa Valley Coffee vs Baird Carpentry, which has been rained out twice now will hopefully get played Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The winner will advance to the best-of-three semi-finals anticipated to start next week.

Maitland vs Lyn in the North Leeds Final

For the first time in many years, North Augusta will not be in the North Leeds Men's Fastball League final series, as they lost last night 15-7 in game three of the semi-final series versus Maitland.

The best-of-three finals will begin tonight at 8 p.m. in Maitland as they face Lyn for the league title.

Royals to face Athletics in Shawville final

The Royals advanced to the Shawville Men's Fastpitch League final with a 10-1 win over the Scrappers on Tuesday night.

Adam Rueckwald had the complete game win and hit two homers for the Royals. Todd Hearty took the loss and batted in the Scrappers only run. Darrell Crawford pitched in relief.

The Athletics and Royals will face off for the title on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Shawville R.A.

North Augusta tournament results

The Moan and Groan League had its year end Tournament this past weekend in North Augusta. 

Domville Aces were A champions over North Augusta Royals 3-2.

TS Electric won the B final 5-1 over the Maitland Bandits.

MVP was Andrew Fortier from Domville.

Top Catcher was Austin Limburg from Domville.

Top pitcher was Jamie Finucan from TS Electric.

Other teams in the League are Maynard and Roebuck Old Timers, Spencerville Grounders and Kingston Cowboys.

Lyn advances to North Leeds final, awaits opponent

Lyn swept Spencerville two games straight to advance to the North Leeds Men's Fastball League final.

They await the winner of game three between North Augusta and Maitland to determine their opponent. That game is tonight at 8 p.m.

Can Am wins Durk Sherman Classic

Can Am won the 74th Annual Durk Sherman Classic played over Labour Day weekend in Elkland, PA.

Can Am beat the New York Bombers 10-6 in the final game Sunday night. 

Kyle Ainslie and Brandon Sands pitched for Can Am in the event while the Bombers had Jordan Macdonald and Sisko Sabate on the slab.

The host Elkland Softball Association finished third. Their pitchers were Duane Weiler, Cohen Christener and Zack Winkworth.

Local teams participating were the Greenbush Generals who finished with one win and three losses and West Carleton Electric with one win and two losses. Thomas Maclean and Carley Shane threw for the Generals while Adam Rueckwald and Brad Porter pitched for the Electric.

Eleven teams participated in the event.

Durk Sherman Classic Tournament in Elkland this weekend

The Durk Sherman 74th Annual Classic tournament will be held this Labour Day weekend, once again at the beautiful ballyard in Elkland, Pennsylvania.

There are 11 teams entered, including at least two from Eastern Ontario: Greenbush Generals and West Carleton Electric. There is also a CanAm team likely with some Eastern Ontario content.

I will be there this year after missing two of the last three - I am really looking forward to re-connecting with my Elkland friends and will do my best to document the goings-on this weekend - at least those that can be published.

2 million plus

 Sometime in the past month, the all-time views for this blog went over 2 million.

That seems.....insane. But also validating for the effort I have put into this thing. Thanks to everyone who keeps coming back to check out stories, those who send me stuff, and the people who respond to my irritating text messages asking for updates. I'll do my best to keep posting content.

The Caveman says I should have monetized this thing. He's probably right, but I never have. I do accept random beers in beer gardens across the softball world if you're ever interested though.

Blackburn playoffs get underway

The 2026 Blackburn Men's Fastball League regular season wraps up this week, and playoffs get underway next week. Five teams competed for the regular season title, and each team played a regular season game against the Lacroix Sports legends team. Goodfellows, led by Shannon Borho, won the regular season title. 

With five teams in the league this year, the BMFL went back to a best of three series format with the 4th and 5th place team competing in a series for a spot in the semifinals.

The 4th place Solotech Elevation take on the 5th place Rogues. Will Lowe and Nick Bowman will toe the rubber for the Elevation and Derick Bulley and Matt Cox will share the pitching duties for the Rogues. The Rogues won the regular season series two games to one. Game 1 gets underway on Tuesday, September 8 at 8:00 pm and game 2 on Thursday, September 10 at 9:00 pm. 

Winner of the series will take on the first place Goodfellows. 

In the first semi-final, the second-place Bandits, led by Max Lalonde, will take on the third-place Blue Jays, led by Andy Barber. The Blue Jays won the regular season series between the two teams, two games to one. Game 1 of the best of three series is scheduled for Thursday, September 10 at 7:00 pm. 

All games are played at the Blackburn arena diamond.

Twins tie series with Brewers

The Micksburg Twins tied their best-of-three Greater Ottawa Fastball League playoff series with the Manotick Brewers at a game apiece with a 2-0 win Tuesday night in Micksburg. 

Joran Graham threw a perfect game for the home team. Luc D'Entremont allowed only one hit for Brewers.

Twins got their first run when Jared Steege walked, stole second, advanced to third on an overthrow and scored on a Joe Mick ground out. The insurance run was plated after Andy McIntyre tripled and scored on a passed ball.

The date and time for Game 3 will be confirmed shortly. 

Shawville playoff update

Shawville Men's Fastpitch League playoff action continued on Tuesday night.

The Athletics defeated the Scrappers 5-1 to advance directly to the final. Matt Greer threw for the A's while Darrell Crawford and Todd Hearty pitched for Scrappers. Evan Atkinson hit two homers for the A's.

The Royals eliminated the Flyers with a 13-6 win. Adam Rueckwald pitched for the Royals while Luke Young threw for the Flyers. 

The Royals will face the Scrappers to see who moves on to the finals.

Shawville playoffs start

The Shawville Men's Fastpitch League playoffs started Monday night.

In the early game, the #1 Athletics defeated the #4 Royals 5-1. Matt Greer got the win and Adam Rueckwald took the loss. 

The late game saw the #2 Scrappers beat the #3 Flyers 7-6. Todd Hearty and Darrell Crawford threw for Scrappers and Luke Young for Flyers.

Athletics play Scrappers tonight at 7 p.m. with a trip to the Final on the line. Flyers face Royals at 8:30 p.m. with the winner eliminated.

Barn Cats win Carp League playoff tournament

The four-team Carp Men's Fastball League came to a close on Saturday August 29 with the year-end tournament, with one of the most exciting finals the Carp league has witnessed.

The Finals saw the Defending Champions Team Red (All in One Septic and Excavating) up against much younger Team Black (The Barn Cats/Devries Power) aka Kitty Cats.

Blair Laughlin went three strong innings for the Barn Cats with relief from Andy McIntyre. Ray Armstrong started for the Big Red machine with relief from Jon Daley and Bryan Armstrong.

At the end of seven, the score was 0-0 and then went to international tie breaker. Nothing was resolved in the eighth, and each team scored one in the ninth. In the top of the tenth Armstrong came back to relieve Daley and the Barn Cats put up three and All in One could only get one back.

Final Score: Barn Cats 4 All in One 2. W.P McIntyre L.P Armstrong. 

In the Bronze medal game, Team Blue defeated Team Grey (Goldie Mohr).

The Carp League plays Tuesday night regular season games at the Fairground diamonds.
