West Carleton Electric came back from a 9-5 deficit in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the Kars Aces 10-9 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play on Tuesday night in Fitzroy Harbour.
Gabe Brown earned his first GOFL pitching win, in relief of Steve Cavanagh. Nick Ellis took the loss in relief of starter Brad Porter and Cory Alkerton.
Kars scored in the first. Ellis walked with one out - his first of four walks on the night. He advanced to third on Kurtis Summer's single and then scored on a Matt Alkerton single.
The Electric put four on the board in the bottom of the third. Neil Murphy walked with one out, moved to second on Alex Boucaud's single, and scored when Trevor Barton singled. After a strike out, Chris Trafford hit a three run shot.
The Aces responded by scoring five in the top of the fourth. Brad Pender walked and scored on an Ellis home run. Cory Alkerton then hit a solo shot. After a Summers single, Cory Morrison homered to put the visitors up 6-4.
Kars scored another three in the top of the fifth. Pender walked, Ellis walked, and Cory Alkerton hit his second homer of the night to put the Aces up 9-4. The inning ended on a very rare 4-6-1-3 double play.
Porter gave way to Alkerton who pitched a three up three down fifth inning.
In the sixth inning, the Electric put the 17 year old Brown in to pitch. Despite some hard hit ground balls, the Aces went three up three down.
West Carleton chipped away with a run in the bottom of the sixth frame. Chris Costello started things off with a walk, and scored on a Trafford triple to make it 9-5.
Kars threatened in the top of seven after consecutive walks to Pender and Ellis. However, Brown got out of the inning with two ground outs and a strikeout.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Electric managed five runs to squeak out the win. Following a strikeout to lead off the inning, Murphy walked. He scored on a Boucaud homerun, which was followed by a Barton solo shot, cutting the lead to 9-8. Costello then doubled, and Trafford reached base when he was hit by a pitch. Kars elected to then bring Porter back from first base to go in to pitch. A wild pitch to batter Jeff Campbell had Costello moving to third, and the attempted throw was errant, and scoring Costello to tie the game at 9. Campbell then walked, and Ellis came in to pitch. A Jeff Cavanagh single to shallow left loaded the bases for Owen Brown, who drew a "walk off walk" to end the game 10-9 in favour of the home team.
