ISC update

After the Friday games at the International Softball Congress World Tournament in North Mankato, MN, there are four teams remaining.

Hill United beat Northeast Drillers 3-1 in the undefeated game to advance to the Final at 5:30 p.m. (Central). JDT First Energy plays STK Fastball at 9:30 a.m. with the winner to play the Drillers in the semi-final at noon. 

Midland Explorers won the ISC II Final yesterday 3-1 over the Georgian Bay Giants on a walk off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning. 

On the 50+ Legends side, four teams remain in the semi-finals: Highroad Excavating Northstars (BC) vs Cobourg Force (ON) and CR Brewers (BC) vs All Season Patriots (PA). 

Waterdown Hammer lost 5-4 in the first round of the playoff bracket to the Minnesota Aces. Brad Porter started the game and Bill Carson took the loss in relief.

The International Softball Congress has released the schedule for today's remaining games as of 11:30 a.m. Central time.

Six teams left in ISC bracket

There are six teams remaining in contention at the International Softball Congress World Tournament in North Mankato, MN. 

Hill United Chiefs play the Northeast Drillers in the undefeated game tonight at 6:30 p.m.

On the losers' side, at 11:00 a.m. the Bear Creek Gremlins play the Bear Creek Express, and at 1 p.m. JDT First Energy plays STK Fastball.

On the ISC II side of things, Midland Explorers are waiting in the 3 p.m. final and will face the winner of Junkyard Dawgs vs Georgian Bay Giants at 9 a.m.

Schedule for ISC World tournament is released

The schedule for the International Softball Congress World Tournament to be held mid-August in Surrey, British Columbia has been released.

Gremlins win ISC title

The New York Gremlins won the International Softball Congress World Tournament on Saturday with a 6-1 win over the Bear Creek Express.

The Gremlins came up the loser bracket defeating both the Hill United Chiefs and Niagara Stompers earlier on Saturday.

Jack Besgrove the Australian pitcher for the Gremlins was named to the All World First Team, top pitcher and top newcomer.

The Pueblo Bandits won the ISC II tournament and the CR Brewers won the 50+ Legends event.

Local players this weekend at the ISC World Tournament

A quick recap of how local players did at the International Softball Congress world tournament this weekend in Wisconsin:

Kingston Axemen lost 5-0 Saturday in their scheduled first game against Grande Prairie, AB Pirates. They were one-hit; Nick Ellis had a single to lead off the game for the Axemen. The Axemen were then supposed to play Monday morning, but bad weather coming changed the schedule and they instead played late Sunday night. They lost this one 12-4 to the St. Paul, MN Marchio Sausage. Of their four hits, Joe Mick had a double and Scott Conroy a single for Kingston. The Axemen will now play in the ISC II bracket, with their first game scheduled for 4 p.m. CDT (5 p.m. EDT) Tuesday against the Alvinston Aces, a team that is also 0-2.

Niagara Stompers won 13-0 over the Auckland, NZ Blue Sox on Sunday. Matt Greer saw some time in the outfield. They will now play the Fond du Lac, WI AHI Reapers on Monday at 5 p.m. CDT (6 p.m. EDT) weather permitting.

Hill United Chiefs won their first game 11-0 on Sunday over the Grand Valley, ON Expos. Joran Graham was on the slab in relief, throwing two innings of shutout ball and striking out four. With the aforementioned bad weather on the way, the Chiefs next game was moved up the late night on Sunday / early hours of Monday. They also won that one 11-0, this time over the Greenleaf, WI Wander Springs Chippers. Graham did not see any action in this one. Next up for the Chiefs is a game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. CDT (8 p.m. EDT) against the winner of Omma Tigres from Mexico vs RM Kurtz from Pennsylvania. 

Cobourg Dirt Road Co. wins ISC II title

The Cobourg Dirt Road Co. team won the International Softball Congress ISC II title in Denmark, Wisconsin today with a 4-0 victory over the Wiarton Nationals.

Kingston Axemen finish second at ISC II tournament

After getting bumped from the ISC World Tournament in South Bend, Indiana, the Kingston Axemen moved to the ISC II bracket and made the best of it, finishing second.  The only two losses for Kingston were against the champions, the Wiarton Nationals.

Kanata Storm finish 2-2 at the ISC World Tournament, 1-2 at ISC II tournament

Kanata Storm results at the International Softball Congress World Tournament in South Bend, Indiana.

The Storm opened up Saturday afternoon with a 8-6 win over the Bedford Rays from Reading, Pennsylvania. Mike Noftall earned the win and had relief from Joran Graham and Corey Costello. Duane Weiler was the losing pitcher. Kyle Ezekiel and Matt Greer had home runs for the Storm.

Next up on Sunday afternoon was an 8-2 loss to the Toronto Gators. The game was 5-2 going into the sixth. Sean Cleary had the win and Kyle Linton threw an inning of relief. Corey Costello took the loss for Kanata and Mike Noftall saw action in relief. Ezekiel was 3 for 3 for the Storm with an RBI and a run scored. Wayne Laulu, Tyson Byrne and Shane Boland all had homers for the Gators.

Monday morning saw the Storm defeat Ochapowace Cree Nation Chetty's Pretty Boys from Saskatchewan 10-0 in run-rule shortened game. Joran Graham had the win, allowing only one hit and one walk. The Storm had homes from Ezekiel, Greer and Ryan Kirk.

The fourth game for the Storm was a 4-2 against Delisle, SK Diamond Dogs. Bryan Newton got the win. Mike Noftall took the loss with relief from Joran Graham. The Storm moved to the ISC II bracket.

In the first game of the ISC II draw, the Storm defeated SME Threshers from Fargo, North Dakota 9-3. Ryan Kirk hit a homer in a pinch hit appearance for the Storm. Joran Graham had the win while Kevin Kameuller took the loss.

The second match up in ISC II was against Tin Cup from Minnesota. After going down 5-0, the Storm came back in the top of the seventh to go ahead 6-5 but Tin Cup hit two solo shots in the bottom of the inning to beat the Storm 7-6. Mike Noftall was the losing pitcher in relief of Cory Alkerton. Winning pitcher was Nicolas Siebenlist in relief of Joel Cooley.

Storm were beat out of the ISC II tournament with a 10-5 loss to Waterdown Hammer from southern Ontario. Tim Neill was the winning pitcher and had relief from Tim Yantzi. Corey Costello had the start for Kanata and Joran Graham took the loss in relief. Darren Featherstone also pitched in relief.

The Kingston Axemen won their first World Tournament game 3-2 against the Lloydminister Dodgers from Saskatchewan. They lost their second game 3-2 to the Kitchener Hallman Twins and lost 6-0 to Page Brake from Utah. They also went to "The Twos". Axemen won their won their first game 4-2 against the Great Lakes Mariners from Michigan and their second 12-4 against Cal State Builders of Washington. They lost Wednesday night to Wiarton Nationals 3-2 in extra innings. They can finish no lower than third at the ISC II Tournament.

Joran Graham named top pitcher at ISC II Tournament

Joran Graham of Ottawa Broker4Tickets was named top pitcher for the ISC II component of the International Softball Congress World Tournament in Kitchener.

Graham was also named to the "All World" team for ISC II as a pitcher, as was Brad Pender for outfielders.

Parry Island Hawks new website

The Parry Island Hawks, champions last year at the ISC II level, now have a new website.

GOFLers Joe McCleary, Matt Greer and Joran Graham will all be suiting up for the Hawks this season, who are managed by the one and only Derek Pinkerton.

Congratulations to Parry Island Hawks who won the ISC II Championship game 1-0 over Aurora, IL Dolan & Murphy.  Joe McCleary scored the games only run. Matt Greer had a hit for the Hawks and after the conclusion was named to the ISC II All Tournament Team.

ISC World Tournament update - UDPATED AGAIN

Another quick round up of the GOFLers participating at the ISC Worlds in Midland, Michigan this week.
Joe McCleary and Matt Greer from the Quyon Combat Flyers are playing for the #36 ranked Parry Island Hawks. After dropping their first two games to Pete's Blues from Illinois and Shakespeare, ON, they got relegated to the ISC II side. In the "twos" they have won four games straight over Wiarton, ON, Venezuela, St. Thomas, ON and Aurora, IL. They are in the ISC II final at 4pm today, a game on Ballpark TV.

Cory Alkerton from the Kars Aces was pitching for the unranked Kitchener Outlaws. They lost 3-1 to a local team called Big Apple Bagels, then lost 7-4 to the Kitchener Cubs. After moving to the ISC II bracket, the lost two close games to Wellington, ON and Wiarton to finish 0-4.

Dan Loney of the Carp I4C Victory played for the Midland Explorers host team, ranked #9. They beat the NY Bombers, lost to Saskatoon, beat Circle Tap from Wisconsin, then lost to Niagara Snappers to finish their tourney 2-2.

Joran Graham from the Flyers is pitching for the #15 Scarborough Force. They started off with a win over the Staten Island, NY, lost to Hill United from Six Nations, ON, beat the Kitchener Cubs 5-4 and beat Spokane, Washington to make it to the round of 12. The Force lost to the California A's 2-1 this morning to finish the tournament 3-2.

Joel Langford from I4C is playing for the #19 Toronto Gators. They beat the Circle Tap Dukes, beat the Cal-State Builders, lost to PA Power. Today they beat the Niagara Snappers 12-9 in a wild one to advance to the round of 8. They will play the California A's tomorrow at noon.

[update: looks like they beat the Venezuelans 2-1, and now play 11am on Wednesday]

They play against on Wednesday at 1pm against the winner of Spokane, WA Silverhawks and Alvinston, ON Indians.

They started off with a surprise 1-0 squeaker over Circle Tap Dukes, beat the Cal-State Builders from Seattle 6-1, and now face PA Power from Harrisburg at 6pm in what should be a great game. [update: they lost 3-0 to the Power and will play again at 10am on Thursday]

Ashland wins ISC II, Big Joe recognized

Ashland, Ohio Stockpack won the ISC II tournament title, defeating Topeka, Kansas Toros 4-0 in the title game.

Congratulations to Joe McCleary on being named to the "All Tournament" team as a catcher and to Mathieu Roy for being named to the "All Tournament" team as an outfield and for the best batting average in ISC II play.

Quyon loses to Wellington at ISC II Tourney

The Quyon Combat Flyers, who had been moved to the ISC II bracket at the World Tournament, lost this afternoon to the Wellington Sox of Harriston, ON by a score of 10-3. The Flyers led at one point 3-1, but Wellington came back to eliminate Quyon.

Quyon had the lead in each of their games at the tournament, with the exception of the loss to the Bar of Appleton. Quyon also played in three extra inning games. The Flyers finish with a 3-4 record.

Quyon wins first ISC II game

The Quyon Combat Flyers won their first game in the ISC II bracket, beating the Anadarko (Oklahoma) Super Chiefs 4-3 in a nine inning game. Drew Hathway got the win going the distance for Quyon. Steve Savard had the game winning RBI in the ninth.

Quyon now faces the #21 Wellington Sox from Harriston ON at 11am CDT on Wednesday. The Flyers would have to win three more games in a row to make it to the ISC II final game on Thursday. If they lose, they are done.

Quyon now has a 3-3 record.

ISC announces condensed schedule for 2007 ISC II Tournament of Champions
December 19, 2006

The International Softball Congress is pleased to announce that the 2007 ISC II Tournament of Champions (ToC) is being shortened from a 6.5-day tournament to a 4.5-day tournament and will run from Tuesday August 14 to Saturday August 18, 2007 in Kitchener and Cambridge, ON.

This condensed schedule will help make it more affordable for teams to attend the premier intermediate championship in men’s fastball. The tournament will be contested among 35 teams split into seven pools of five. Each team will play four round robin games with the top three in each pool along with three wild cards advancing to a single elimination playoff bracket.

Games will be played at Budd Park in Kitchener and Kinsmen Park in nearby Cambridge with the semi-finals and championship game scheduled to be played Saturday morning at Peter Hallman Ballyard in Kitchener. Provided that the ToC and the ISC World Tournament are on schedule, we are working to have the ISC II championship game, for the first time, both video and audio streamed for fans across North America.

Qualifying for the ToC will be conducted regionally with berths available as follows:
U.S. East - 10
U.S. Central - 8
U.S. West - 4
Canada East - 6
Canada West - 4
2006 Champions, Finalist and Host Team - 3

Unused berths from any region will be filled by Canada East teams.

As per a motion passed by the ISC Board of Directors at its 2006 meeting, the top two finishing teams in the 2007 ISC II ToC will receive automatic berths into the 2008 ISC World Tournament in Kimberly, WI.
